Today after I woke up I tried to log in using my laptop and it gave me a message saying "corrupted profile" or something like that, after a few seconds I logged in using this temp user folder

I need to fix this thing, I have tons of important files in this user profile

things I tried:

1. check disk, it just doesn't work, I tried running it under safe mode(Which doesn't work as well, as it gives me a temp user again), I tried doing it from the properties, and nothing worked, I restart and it just starts up as if nothing has changed

2. I created a new profile, now when I went to the users folder under the C: folder I couldn't find the profile's name that got corrupted

3. when I search for the name, and try to click on it I get the following message

unledhhk.png

4. I tried using the recuva program to find out if it's possible to restore all the files, but it just doesn't work

5. I have a system restore point from 9/9/2011 when my computer was working fine but I can't do this because it just doesn't work

I get the following message

unledmhl.png

it suggests me to do a check disk, but as I said this doesn't work

what are my options guys? why would windows 7 allow something like this to happen?

edit:

I went to this folder

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\

and there is a key named

S-1-5-21-2745581220-3385034579-4259805032-1000.bak

when I click on it, it has information about my corrupted profile, can this help?

I runSFC /scannow, booted using safe mode and opened the cbs log file, after searching for autochk.exe I found these things

2011-09-15 13:41:23, Info CSI 00000034 [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:22{11}]"autochk.exe" of Microsoft-Windows-Autochk,

2011-09-15 13:41:24, Info CSI 00000039 Hashes for file member \??\C:\Windows\System32\autochk.exe do not match actual file [l:22{11}]"autochk.exe" ::
and tons of other errors about this executable file

can this be the reason why the chkdsk is not working?

i searched for this file and when i try to run it i get this message

thanks for the reply

unfortunately none of these worked for me

I can't do a system restore at boot because it gives me an error saying that I should restart the computer, choose my operating system for which the restore I want to happen, and then do a system restore.. it seems like this tool is useless, it just told me to reboot and use the tool that exists in windows, nothing more

I tried the other two as well, and they didn't work....

I can't understand why me? I mean, there are tons of errors I can get, why this error out of all the errors? now I will lose all my data and that's it, I'm screwed

kkk1,

Were you able to log in to a administrator account or the built-in Administrator account using the STEP ONE section of those tutorials?

As a test, restore the S-1-5-21-2745581220-3385034579-4259805032-1000.bak registry key, and rename it as S-1-5-21-2745581220-3385034579-4259805032-1000 without .bak at the end, and restart the computer.

Yes I was an administrator

now the thing is that some minutes ago I tried doing a system restore again, and I had to remove the antivirus before doing it,the restore worked, but 3/4 of the files are gone

is it possible to restore these files as well?

i thought windows would not touch the files when system restore is applied

That's better news.

System restore would only affect system files and programs, and not files in the user folders. The corrupted profile was probably the cause of the missing files.

You could try the previous versions or the free program Recuva to try and recover them from within the folder that they were in.

thanks for your help

I'm not sure if this is a miracle, but I signed in using safe mode, went to the C: folder and found a file called found.000 which contains literally all my data.. even the projects I created 1 day before the problem

how is this possible?

About the solution, I'm not sure, if you have the same problem as mine, just try everything stated on this thread and maybe you'll find your way out of this problem
