Hi there! This is my first post here. I bought a intel 320 160g gen3. Looking to clone my raid o to it. I may be over simplifying it but can't I just install the SSd in the 3rd Sata spot clone to it from the raid then just change the bios to boot off of the SSd and change it to ahci? Then keep the raid o as is for storage of games and such. I am not putting any important data on the raid o purely a gaming computer. Fresh instal isn't an option btw.

Hi,

You could try this tutorial:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/149969-ssd-install-transfer-operating-system.html

But...I would be cautious : the unknown here is how the SSD (in a non-RAID configuration) handles the clone of the existing disks (in a RAID0 configuration). The registry will contain information pertaining to a RAID, and I'm unsure how the SSD will handle that - perhaps someone more experienced could provide some insight to that.

The safest option is always a clean install.

Good luck,
Golden

So, would I be better off buying another SSd since my system is already configured for raid replacing the 2 hdd's then do a fresh instal?

Hi,

If you do a fresh install, then you don't require a second SSD.

Only if you want to transfer the exysting RAID0 installation to a SSD, might you need a second SSD in a RAID0 array. The benefits of that are questioned by many.

Again, I emphasize this is an unknown area for me. If it was me : I would do a clean install of everything, and forgo or forget about a RAID0 setup for the OS and installed programs altogether.

A single SSD is lighting fast compared to most home-RAID0 setups anyway.

Regards,
Golden
