Hi there.

Apologies if this has been covered before but I've looked through the referenced tutorials and searched a lot to no avail.

Background
I have a Samsung laptop which developed Hard drive errors before completely refusing to boot up. I have removed the hard drive and inserted a brand new hard drive purchased today. I have an ISO of the Win7 cd so I burned this to a blank DVD

Issue
I have set the CD as the primary booting device in the BIOS and started the laptop with the DVD in. The DVD does not boot and returns a black screen with "Operating System not found".

Please advise on how to proceed. I made a system recovery disk on another win7 machine which then gives me some options but I don't know how to do a clean install from here.

Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

S.

Hello and thanks muchly for the welcome.

That is the tutorial that I would very much like to follow but my current issue is that the system won't boot from the DVD.

I'm not sure you're actually booting from that dvd. Try another way- reboot with the dvd in the tray and tap F12 repeatedly till you see a menu where you can select the boot device, choose the dvd drive, hit Enter.

If its still no joy, you may have a bad burn or a bad iso. Try reburning the iso at the slowest possible speed, also try using a new disk of good quality.

What is the origin of the iso, may be a defective one.

Finally, did this computer come with windows 7 preinstalled? If yes, then other options are available.

Are you sure you have burnt the DVD correctly?

You need to make the DVD bootable, not just burn data to it.

As stated, you need to burn the ISO image to a blank disc to make it bootable.

ImgBurn is ideal for this and is a free download.

Wow - I'm overwhelmed by the assistance provided so quickly. I'll try to address all the points made - apologies if I don't quote you.

1) I've tried the F12 and it says "Booting from AHCI CD-ROM" before saying "Operating system not found". The DVD drive is listed first in the boot priority of the BIOS.

2) The computer did originally have Windows 7 installed but the HDD failed to the point where it would not load (nor would the samsung recovery tool).

3) I did not make a recovery disk on this computer.

4) How would I make a disk bootable? I just burned the Win7 ISO to a blank DVD using a different Win7 computer. There is a bootmgr file on the DVD.

Thanks for your continues and valuable advice.

Looks like a bad iso or a bad burn. You don't need to do anything special for a bootable windows disk, just burn the iso to disk. As I said earlier, please reburn at the lowest speed to check. Also check whether the computer actually boots from any bootable disk, try any random one you have lying around.

Thanks once more, guys.

I'm burning at 3.5 speed now. The last one was x18.

Hopefully I'll only have to come back to thank you all.
