No hdmi input on LCD hdtv with Windows 7 64 bit laptop

I just bought a Lenovo v570 laptop with vga and hdmi output and I cannot get the hdmi to output to my tv. The tv is a vizio 47" 3d LCD and the laptop is running windows 7 home 64bit. I have tried windows graphics drivers, lenovo drivers and intel drivers. To me there is not much difference between them but who knows. The laptop will output to tv using vga and it will connect to an LG 42 inch LCD at my work using hdmi, just not to the one I have at home. I have tried everything that I can think of as far as settings go and on my tv as well. Nothing changes whatever I do. Does anyone know of any hardware compatibility between some vizio tvs and windows 7? I have seen one on the compatibility website for windows but it was not my tv. Mine is not listed. The model number for my tv is E3D470VX. Not sure what else to try. Next I guess I will call Vizio to see if they can work out the problem. Lenovo support doesn't know. Any suggestions would be nice. have you happened onto a solution for this yet? i exactly have the same hardware (v570 and E3D470VX tv). i've tried my girlfriend's laptop (sony vaio with hdmi) and it works just fine. mine doesn't do anything at all when plugged in. i don't see anything about hdmi in the device manager, and haven't tried it with any other tv, so there's a possibility it's my laptop hardware; but it's brand new equipment...

please help if you have any further information. thanks!

Still have not resolved this problem.

I have talked to Lenovo and Vizio to troubleshoot this and they both run me around in circles. I don't think it is anything wrong with the laptop, but rather a combination of things between Windows 7 and the firmware for the TV. Either way I didn't get any results from either companies. I suggested to Vizio that they test with that exact setup so that they can see it for themselves but I guess that is just too much to ask. Sorry but I don't think this will ever get resolved unless you can convince Vizio to do something.

thank you for your super quick response! yeah, i was kinda starting to figure that was the case. that's horrible. i'll try my laptop with a tv at work just to confirm that the laptop hw is good. i'll post back the results and any info i find on the combination of the two. wish us both luck...

In you display settings, have you tried changing the output to "Extend Desktop" or "Clone Display"?

a search for a solution has produced a 'possible' solution:

Press the "FN" and "F7" keys on your keyboard. This will switch the laptop's display to the TV. You can then use your TV screen as a monitor or use the laptop's DVD drive to watch movies on your TV.

I'm currently using a Vizio 37" with my Toshiba. Absolutely no problems.

My rig has an Nvidia 310M card internal. All settings were done through the Nvidia software.

Check the HDMI settings on the LCD. It should simply be on if you get the right HDMI channel (mine has 3).

Hopefully Tman has the cure to what ails you.

i know *some* lenovo v570 laptops have a "switchable" video output - intel for vga and nvidia for hdmi. unfortunately, mine is not one of those (it's a physical switch on the front of the laptop).

raven2510 - the problem is that *nothing* happens when the tv is plugged in. won't clone, extend, or otherwise do anything at all. it acts like the hdmi doesn't even exist! very frustrating...
tman69 - as for Fn+F7, there is no function assigned to that key. Fn+F3 switches between lcd and vga displays, but still doesn't seem to affect hdmi at all. good idea, but was one of the 1st things i tried.

If you have Nvidia as your gfx - have you tried their setup? That's where I did my switch over. The only tricky spot was getting the sound turned off the tv.

Right click your desktop and choose the Nvidia option. But that seems like something I'm certain you've already tried.

Another option is try each of the hdmi ports on your Vizio. They are known to be bad sometimes. Had a Mitsubishi that had two and one didn't work.

my vid card is listed as "intel hd graphis family" - that sounds generic to me, but i installed the drivers for it straight from lenovo's site. lenovo also lists a driver for an nvidia card, but that is for the 'switchable' model that i don't have (did try to install it anyway, but it failed having not found compatible hardware).

i got a sony vaio to work on the same hdmi port, so i'm sure the port and cable are good. going to take mine to work tomorrow and test on a tv there. by this point, i'm almost hoping it IS my laptop hardware - since it's still under warranty

The issue You have with the HDMI output IS definitely a driver-related issue.

My setup:
Dell Latitude E6320 notebook with Intel HD 3000 Graphics + Sharp LCD 42''

Why is it definitely a driver issue?
- I have a dual boot setup which includes Win 7 x64 and Ubuntu.
- Starting Win 7 - there it goes, no HDMI output at all, TV not recognized.
- Restart
- This time I go Ubuntu instead of Windows in the dual boot - bingo! HDMI output perfect.

Same TV, same laptop, same cabling, same time.

If You google for it - it's been a pain in the butt for a huge number of users, but Intel constantly ignores the issue and it remains unsolved, unfortunately.
