DVD player won't finalize DVD-RW

DVD player won't format DVD-RW

Please does anybody know why my HP G62 with a DVD drive will format CD-RW but not DVD-RW, and if so could they please tell me how to get it to do so? I got the title wrong - it should read format not finalize. I'm brand new to the forum and to computing. It's changed now - sorry.

It depends on the drive and its capabilities. It might be able to write DVD+RW but not DVD-RW, whereas it's much more common for a drive to handle both DVD+R and DVD-R just fine. Note the difference between the plus and minus as well as between R (recordable) and RW (rewritable).

The other possibility is that your computer has a combo drive, one that reads and writes CD formats but can only read DVD formats, not write to them. Those are kinda rare nowadays, though...
