Compatible Upgrade Hardware For My Motherboard?

Hello Seven Forums,

I am in need of, I am assuming, a new Processor and more Memory (RAM) for my motherboard/P.C. .

The reason I ask of this is because I have very little knowledge of hardware, and am last night I purchased a new graphics card and power supply. The Power Supply supports up to 600W, I have a Radeon HD 4670 1GB DDR2 Graphics Card (which recommends 400 Watts).

Will I also need to upgrade my Power Supply again?

I have no idea what I need, what's good, and how much I may be spending, if my gaming can get a serious change with upgrading my RAM, that would be sweet.

I also am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, so I am pretty sure I can support more than just 4GB.

If your planning on upgrading the cpu and ram you might as well make the move to Socket AM3 or Intel Socket 1155 by upgrading the motherboard also, as DDR3 ram is considerably cheaper than DDR2 ram which is what your computer is running you will see better results from upgrading to more recent computer hardware and it will cost the near the same if not less than upgrading the few pieces of an older system but i cant really tell you much more if your not knowledgeable enough to build the computer yourself.

Also the Power supply should be good enough to run all you need unless you have 4 hard drives etc

First of all, we need to know what games you play. RAM is not as important for gaming as a graphics card is. A Radeon 4670 should be fine for your system as should the 600w PSU. Could you also specify the exact brand and model of the power supply? It is not only the wattage that matters, there are other factors too.

As for upgrading the CPU and RAM, your motherboard has an AM2+ socket and therefore supports the following processors.

• AMD Phenom II Quad-Core
• AMD Phenom II Triple-Core
• AMD Phenom Quad-Core (A) 9xxx series (AM2+)
• AMD Phenom Triple-Core (T) 8xxx series (AM2+)
• AMD Athlon X4
• AMD Athlon X3
• AMD Athlon X2 (B) (AM2+)

With RAM, it only supports up to 4GB DDR2 240-pin memory. This means it will support most of the RAM shown here or here. If you were to buy more RAM, you would be better off with 4GB of 800Mhz.

Honestly, you would benefit in going with a motherboard upgrade and buying a Sandy Bridge processor. That way you can get some faster and cheaper DDR3 RAM which will also benefit your gaming.
