moving the My Music folder.. WMP12

does anybody know how I can move the My Music folder onto another HD, but keep it as the default for WMP12..?

I've got the OS on SSD, but it'd make good sense to store the bulky stuff elsewhere..
- don't want to fill up my SSD with music files - have a terabyte of SATAHDD, so there's masses of room..

First Create a folder named Music or what ever suites you on the destination disk.

next:
On the left pane of your explorer where you see Favourites, Desktop, Computer, etcetera make sure your username is shown.

If it's not right click in that left pane and choose "show all folders"

Now under your username you'll find the music folder.

Right click on it and chose properties, then chose the location tab,
next click on move and browse to the music folder you created on the other disk.
click on "select folder" and when asked to move the files that are in the folder to the new location, chose yes!

Wait until the files a transferred there and your done.


Note.
The music library will probably update to the new location, but if it doesn't,

right click on the music library and select properties.

there you can delete the previous location and add the new one.

thanks, squonksc - that worked OK..
- should've backed up the original My Music folder first, it was emptied in the move..

- never mind, I have all the original CD's anyway, so no problem rebuilding the library
- newly added tracks are now being sent to a new folder on the HDD
- automatically named My Music and bearing the same musical note logo as the original
- so it's really easy to spot..

I tried exactly the same thing step-by-step only I did click "YES" when asked to move the files. But it seemed to COPY them instead of Moving them.

And since it did copy the files from the C-drive to my D-drive Music folder and also left the old music files on the C-drive in the My Music folder -- I naturally deleted the files out of the C-drive folder. But to my surprise, it also deleted the files out of the destination folder on the D-drive at the same time. There must have been a link pointer in there someplace and deleted both sets of files.

So I suspect that BugMeister did follow the instructions accurately. However, Win7 may still have a bug. Fortunately I backed up all those music files first, so another copy will solve my problem.

But a warning to others who try this proc, make sure you have a backup folder with all the music files before trying to move these to another drive, regardless of what instructions you use; because there may be a bug in W7. Or maybe we are overlooking something.

You probably could have just added a library in your music folder that pointed to the external folder you wanted, moved your files there, and then delete the unused library. No need to modify the location of the music folder.
