Am searching for such an USB expansion card but I can't seem to find any with a 9-Pin USB header connector, do such cards exist?
Could somebody point me to such if they do exist? :confused:

This one has an USB2.0 header, am trying to find one with a USB3.0 header.

The USB 3 header on my Asus P8Z68-V Pro motherboard has 19 pins. I have no idea whether that's standard.

The 19 (19 active and 1 blank) pin is the standard developed by Intel and has 2 USB 3.0 ports.

Would you mind saying why you need such a header?

The PCIe card will show up in Device manager as a USB Controller and I cannot imagine why you would want to plug it into the MB, maybe I miss-understand you.

That was my point, not that I expressed it directly. yowanvista seems to want to get USB3 through a USB2 connection. I thought that might not be possible, but I wasn't prepared to do the checking to verify that. (USB3 sockets are supposed to be backwards compatible with USB2 devices, but I assumed that the extra conductors weren't all grounds.)

USB 3 jack has the same connectors as USB 2 but the jack has additional connects for USB 3. Two different interfaces in the same cable. Pins 1-4 on a USB 3 plug is for USB 2 and is the same on a USB 2 plug.

As far as I know the only internal USB 3 plug on a motherboard is the 19 pin for two ports. It is the only one I am aware of that meets USB 3.0 specs.

From my understanding a USB 2.0 port you will only get 2.0 no mater what connector you use. The motherboard tells that port weather it's 2.0 or 3.0 no mater how you hook it up. They do make USB3.0/PCI cards that might be what you are looking for but your motherboard will still have to be USB 3.0 capable. If I have misunderstood you I'm sorry.

Hello Yowan your picture is confusing the issue. I guess what you are looking for is a USB3 PCIe card with an internal socket for USB. If your front USB are USB2 then you can forget it there would be no point in such a card as you would plug said socket into the mobo. However if your front USB are USB3 standard then it all makes sense and you may well find a card with a socket for internal USB3 connectors, I am looking bear with me :)

Yes that was what I was looking for, the front USB is USB2.0
I thought if I plugged the front cable in an USB3.0 card it would reach the USB3.0 speeds but that seems to be impossible.

Yes that was what I was looking for, the front USB is USB2.0
I thought if I plugged the front cable in an USB3.0 card it would reach the USB3.0 speeds but that seems to be impossible.

You are correct. Your USB connector is USB 2 only. Most of the add in USB 3 cards have 2 USB 3 ports out the back. I have one in my system and use this StarTech cable and have it on my desk for easy access. It has a 5ft cord.

The only approved internal connector looks like this:

A lot of new cases have a USB 3 port but use the external connector that plugs into the ports on the back of the PC. Some newer ones do have the new internal connector. There are also internal to external adapters if your MB has internal and the case has external.

The good thing about all the USB 3 ports is you can still use a USB 2 device on them.
