Import or Export OE mail to Outlook ?

Hi.

I've got an old PC running WinXP and I have always used OE 6 on it but I DO have Outlook 2007 loaded onto the same machine.

I want to migrate all my email and address book to my new machine running Win 7 Ultimate x64.

I know I can either IMPORT the emails with Outlook 2007 from OE... OR... I can EXPORT the emails using using OE 6.... correct ?

I read somewhere that if I used the Import function I woul dlose the date/time stamp on my old emails. Is that true ?

So... what is better ? To Import the OE emails thru Outlook and then back the pst up and move it to my new machine.... or us e the Export function on EO to try to export the email to Outlook ?

How about my address book ?

And once I get the email and addresses into Outlook 2007 on my old machine, should I use a Memory stick to move them to the new machine or try to use the Windows Easy Transfer and an easy transfer cable (which I already have) ?

Thanks for the links. And I believe one of them is what I read before that gacve me the inmpressions to NOT use the "Import" thru Outlook, but rather the "Export" thru OE.

Here is the quote from one of those links:

Has anyone here had any real experience using the Impoirt function thru Outlook ?

If I do that and it reset the date and time stamp, I guess I could delete it and start over using the Export in OE instead.

But none of the links gives me an idea which one may function better and be faster.

Mail migration functionality is typically back in the stone age. Shaky, klutzy, frustrating.

Back up your existing mail through whatever means possible, such as drag and drop to a backup drive.

Then take 3 or 4 shots of I. W. Harper and put a knife in your teeth and try a method. If that fails, take a few more shots and try another method.

What supposedly worked well for someone else may not work well for you, regardless of similarities between software and systems. That's been my experience with transferring mail between PCs and email apps. It's a lot of trial and error. Don't ask me why it has to be that way.

I guess as long as I have backups of the current emails... all I have to lose is time in experimenting with one method or the other.

Pleased to note you have backups... most important too.
However often overlooked.
