Garbled Image Opening Some Photos in Windows Photo Viewer

I'm having problems opening some photos in Windows Photo Viewer. Image is Garbled but opens fine in Paint.

This is what shows up when photo is opened.

Tried this on 2 computers. Windows Ultimate 32bit and 64bit.

No one has no ideas?

I'd say the .jpg file you're trying to view isn't quite conforming to specifications, i.e. is somewhere between "OK" and "corrupted." Assuming that Paint and Windows Photo Viewer have slightly different ways of decoding the .jpg file, I'd imagine that one can see it just fine and the other can't.

It would be interesting to know where the .jpg came from/which program created it. Maybe try a different program instead - try Googling for software to fix problematic .jpg files as well.

There are a few good suggestions you can try.

Have you considered using Google's Picasa instead? It's free and far better than Windows Photo Viewer.

Picasa 3: Free download from Google

GIMP is another excellent freebie too.

I wasn't aware there were so many known problems with Windows Photo Viewer. Odd, as I've never had a problem with it (and I'm actually a GIMP user myself).
