If the idea of sending your shady search queries into the ether makes you a little nervous, Google is coming to the rescue with a plan to encrypt searches. In the next few weeks, users that are signed into their Google account will automatically be directed to the HTTPS search page for secure searches.

If I understand that correctly, rubes like me who just do searches from Google.com will not have searches encrypted? I think I have some sort of a Google account but haven't logged into it in a year or two---and probably would not just to search.

Not before time. It's a pain to have to remember to use HTTPS.

Seriously...
Most of the web filtering solution nowadays can terminate SSL connection for the purpose of filtering web content.

Meh. If you've got worries about someone finding out your "shady search queries", you've got bigger problems. How does this help? It conveniently links all your searches - ever - to your google account. That right there smells like it's doing exactly the opposite.
