How old is this drive?

This might be due to the aged parts inside the drive. My 5 year ols hdd did the same thing, disk health utilities said that there were no problems (these utilities are very reliable and can calculate the life expectancy of a drive, it has saved some of my friends from loosing data)
I bought a new drive, I was building a new machine either ways...

If you find it annoying you can return it or buy a new one, you can use HDD sentinel to find out if it going to break down.

It could be the motor bearing going bad. Regardless of age, drives will sometimes fail sooner rather than later...and this looks--er, sounds like an early warning sign of an eventual breakdown.

You can continue using the disk but be prepared for the possibility of losing all data on it. In other words, start making backups of anything important and keeping them current.
