Windows 7 PRO asking for More Infomation to get on the Internet

Hi,

I have Windows 7 Professional
4 gigs of ram
Toshiba Laptop brand new ( not even a week old )

Ok well I turned off some stuff in MSCONFIG I didn't turn off any labeled TOSHIBA and now when I reboot I get asked for more information to log on yet im logged on..

Did you have an Internet connection before you edited msconfig?

If so, a system restore to a point before you made any alterations is probably the quickest solution.

I am online but its showing me as theres a problem

PC is brand new there hasnt really been any changes to it.

What I'm finding difficult to understand is how you've got an internet connection when Windows is telling you your network has not been set up - most strange.

I've had no experience in dealing with or setting up a cable LAN, so I hope these links I'm posting help you as much as they do me.

Do you have a separate router and modem or a combined modem/router? It would be a big help if we knew the manufacturer too.

There is a X between the Home icon and the Internet icon (greyed out Globe) in the picture.

It's probably nothing you did with MSCONFIG.

Are you connecting wireless to the cable modem or via ethernet cable?

There's a lot of information missing including what questions to ask.


Edit: After rereading your post, you shouldn't be turning off stuff in MSConfig, especially if you don't know what they do. The laptop is comprised of various components not made by Toshiba... Toshiba is just a brand name. Infact, almost all computer companies just contract out to specialized manufacturers and slap their brand name labels on them. Not just hardware but also software. So you might just undo whatever you did in MSConfig and start from there.

Go to : Start > Control Panel > Under Network and Internet > View Network Status and Tasks > Change Adapter settings > Now either select the Local Area Connection or Wireless Network Connection (depending on what you are using) > right-click and choose Disable > wait for a few mins., right-click and enable it back again.

Let us know if this resolves the problem.

What that network diagram is telling you is that you computer has successfully connected to the Local network (LAN) but has failed to connect to the internet (WAN).
Assuming that you have a typical home setup (a router connected to a cable modem) that means that the issue lies with the modem or the ISP.

The fact that you have an internet connection tells me there is a reporting issue. Windows is looking for some confirmation it is not getting. I suspect that either the AOL or Google stuff is "phoning home" and causing the error.

If you don't want that bloatware on your new laptop then you should go through the process of uninstalling those programs (and all the others too) from "Remove Programs" in Control Panel.

But before doing that, if it were me I would do this first: Re-check everything in msconfig, reboot, check, and if necessary do a system restore to a date before I first unchecked everything, then check that the issue has gone away. If it had, then I would start uninstalling.

Lots of folks here recommend uninstalling all of the crapware they load on new laptops these days. They are notorious for messing up Windows. Some here go even further and recommend clean installing Windows.

Everything is different :

Router: Linksys WRT120N

Modem: ARRIS Telephony / Internet Modem ( It controls our Internet and Home Phone in one )

whats weird is I rebooted last night and all of a sudden its showing the pc with the cat 5 beside it now.. lol did it finally make up its mind?

I turned it off for a full min and turned it back on.

( UPDATE: I rebooted last night and now its showing a computer screen with the cat 5 beside it ) I had to reboot for a Norton Update.
