Hi,
I ordered the 50$ Windows 7 upgrade disk.
I realize that Windows 7 will need vista or XP already installed for the upgrade version of Windows 7.
But if I want to upgrade my Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit,
Will I be able to do it with this upgrade disk?
after all I will need a fresh install (because 32 to 64) and this is the upgrade version...
Thanks!

I am 100% sure that you will be able to, because like you said, the Windows 7 "upgrade" will essentially be a fresh install (once setup determines that you have a qualified Windows product already installed, ie Windows XP or even Windows 2000). Since it's a fresh install, it will install the 64 bit version, if that is the one you bought.

Thanks for your answers.
I'll keep searching for an official one from Microsoft.

Gentlemen, an upgrade path is just that, an upgrade to the currently installed OS. If you perform the win 7 upgrade path to a vista x32 system, it will install win 7 x32.

A clean install, as indicated is a full install with no previous Os on the system, and the upgrade disc's will not have that option available.

Sorry, guys, but when I see wrong info I think it has to be corrected.

If you have Windows Vista 32-bit, you most certainly can buy and use Windows 7 64-bit Upgrade. You can not do an upgrade installation, only the clean one. Windows 7 x64 Upgrade disk needs only to verify you are eligible to use an upgrade option. It does this by checking that your Vista x32 is authentic and licensed.

After checking your systems eligibility, install continues normally but the upgrade option is grayed out, leaving you only the option to do a clean install.

Thank you, Kari, for posting 100% accurate information. With MS provided installation media for all MS OS's ever sold, you do not purchase the OS. You purchase the license.

An upgrade disk contains the entire OS. It is not a patch or service pack. The user will be prompted to insert the qualifying OS media, or to provide a valid license key for the qualifying software.

The point is that he can't upgrade 32bit Vista to 64bit 7, he can only do a clean install.

OP was not asking if he can upgrade a x32 Vista to a x64 Seven, In fact, he clearly stated that he knows he has to a clean install, and was asking if he could use a x64 Upgrade disk to replace his x32 Vista and do a clean install.
