Solved Netgear 7550 b90 gateway can't connect wirelessly (Windows 7)

ATT just sent me this new DLS modem (Netgear 7550 b90 gateway) and I am having trouble getting the wireless connection to it on a Toshiba Satellite laptop running Windows 7. I can connect wirelessly to my Mac and via Ethernet to the Toshiba, but the wireless does not connect to the Toshiba although it shows a connection available. ATT suggested a settings issue. Their tech logged on to the laptop but could not resolve it.

Anyone else have this problem or have a suggestion? Is this device compatible with Windows 7?

NEW INFO: I connected to the Toshiba after I disabled Mac filtering. Not my preferred fix, but it did let the Toshiba connect automatically.

MAC addressing

Hi, don't think you may understand MAC addressing which is actually quite simple.

Every piece of electronic equipment designed to access the internet through a router/gateway has an individual MAC address (usually found on a label on the bottom or back of the device). This address is like a fingerprint for you or me.

When you set up your new equipment it had MAC filtering automatically set ON. Not sure why that was but with MAC filtering ON, you would need to enter the MAC address of any device you are trying to connect to your router/wireless AP (access point). So, find the MAC address on your laptop and then enter that address in your router/AP configuration (this should be where you see the MAC filtering switch). If you don't see the MAC label on your Toshiba, then check the box it came in or it is likely found on your computer in the wireless setup section. Sorry, I can't be much more help in finding that number via this forum.

The purpose of MAC filtering is to prevent any device not entered in the MAC filtering database from logging on and accessing any equipment attached or even your router/AP. It is therefore a very secure way to prevent anyone from attacking your equipment as this is a 'hardware' setting.

Toshiba Mac number

Hey, thanks for the reply. I already had my Mac ID in the gateway but did not know that the Toshiba had a Mac number. I'll check that out.
