Hi

Im thinking about installing maybe a 64gb SSD into my rig just for the operating system and i am wondering whats the best way to tackle this.

my OS is currently on a 500Gb SATA, my plan is to start a fresh and format my 500gb drive and put the OS onto the SSD but can i do this with my original disk even tho the licence has been used to set it up on my hard drive before?

if so then what would be the best way to set up my SSD with new OS so i get the best from it?

You can reinstall windows as many times as you like using your code, but only on one computer at a time.

Firstly install the ssd like a normal drive, and set it to seconday boot device, with dvd drive first.
Then change your hard drive setting from IDE to AHCI in the bios and boot, insert windows disk and your away.

You can set the drive up to fast cache using both your SSD and 500gb drive, so you bridge the gap between fast drive and large capacity, but will result in slower read and write speeds then using the SSD as primary drive alone.
You'll soon run out of space with a 64gb ssd though, and before long you'll be installing programs on your other hard drive, and will not benefit from the speed boost

I suggest you follow the tutorial provided by seavixen. The only difference is with a new SSD, you won't use the 'clean all' command. Just start with the next step. If you move your user files to your other hard drive and install games on the other hard drive, a 64GB drive is sufficient for most people. I am using one and have 30GB free space.
