I have an Acer Aspire 5552G-7641 laptop with 4gb of memory (2x2gb). The max memory supported is 8gb so i put in 2x4gb memory sticks. When I check the system info it says 8gb installed (4 gb usable).

I read alot of forums and it says to change the dram voltage but I have no idea how to do this. The BIOS that comes with this laptop is also very basic and does not allow customization of specific settings.

Any tips or information would be greatly appreciated.

Type msconfig in search. Make sure the max memory is UNchecked.

You may have to "jiggle it".

Best practice: between each step below, shut down, unplug the power adapter, remove the battery, and press the power button for 15 seconds or so, then make the next change.

First, remove the new module, restart the computer, make sure all 4GB is recognized. It so, shut down.

Next, use compressed air or some other method to clean out that second RAM slot. Dust, lint, or a strand of hair can make just enough of a gap to affect the contact on all the pins. Then install the new module again and test. Pay attention to how it clicks into the slot, be sure it is firmly seated (without breaking anything). Test.

If that does not work then switch the modules. Put the new module in the old module's slot and test it alone. Does it report all 4GB?

If it does then install the old module in the second slot and test.

Whether any of this works or not, run Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool for at least 3 passes to see if it reports any errors. Set it up before you go to bed and let it run overnight.

It says so in his system specs :) I doubt a 32 bit system would recognize all 8GBs anyways. I would go with TVeblen's advice. That excludes any hardware fault. Then we can look around for a better configurable BIOS to play with the voltage.

Right click on Computer and go to Properties. Do you see 64 bit operating system below the installed memory like in the picture below?

If it is so what do you see in Memory is it 8GB (4GB usable) or 8GB?

Hello

I am having the same issue. I have an Acer Aspire 5552 which came with 4gb.I upgraded to 8gb and have tried all the solutions on this and a few other forums but no joy. I still get the message "Installed memory 8.00gb (3.74 useable).

I have a 64bit operating system.

Can anyone make any suggestions?

(ps Would have been nice if the OP mentioned how he/she fixed their poblem.)

Tip: Always better to post a new thread. The only people who will see your thread here are the ones that responded to the original post.

What have you done so far?
Did you uncheck the box as ZigZag suggested?
Did you reinstall the RAM module to be sure it is seated correctly as I suggested?

hello

Thanks for that.

I have resolved the issue by rolling back my bios to the earliest and also blowing out the memory ports

Take care

Check your memory modules

I had this problem on an Acer Aspire 5552-7819. Tried many things I found on the Internet including changing settings on msconfig and upgrading BIOS. None worked. I found the problem when I started changing the memory modules. It turns out that the top module, even though it clicks in place, must be inserted as far as it will go with some pressure to make sure the side holders click into the indents on the module. My top memory module was not inserted completely in even though contact was made with one side of the module making the BIOS recognise it, but not the other, which made it unuseable as memory.
