Laptop connects to router = stops internet

Hi,

So for some reason, when I try to use my laptop to connect to the Internet here, as soon as I connect, I get a 'Limited or no connectivity message' and the router stops providing access to the Internet for every other computer connected to it (so as soon as I open that laptop and it tries to connect to the router, no one else in the house has access to the Internet and I have to unplug/plug the power cord back in the router for the Internet to start working again).

It happened without any reason that I know of. It worked normally before, I haven't used it in a week and so when I tried to connect again, it suddenly stopped working...

Is this a common issue? Any solutions? Thanks :)

P.S. Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Who is the manufacturer for your router?

Belkin, Netgear, Cisco/Linksys, etc..?

I know some older model Netgear & Belkin routers have had a tendency to kill the internet after so many devices connected use an unparticular amount of bandwidth... thus I have now invested in a Cisco/Linksys router... problem hasn't re-appeared since.
