Dual Monitor RDP to XP computer

Hello all. I've searched the internet far and wide as well as these forums and have not been able to find the answer. Unfortunately, my sister-in-law's dog killed my 2nd monitor so I haven't been able to test on my own since installing the RC version last week. (new monitor will arrive next week)

My question:

If you RDP in Windows 7 from a computer with dual monitors to an XP computer with dual monitors is the multimon support available?

I want the session to feel as though I'm at work with dual monitors.... not just spanning the 2 monitors. My work computer runs windows xp.

Currently the only way to get this functionality in xp is to use the span command and to use add-in 3rd part software that does not work that great.

Thank you for your help. Again, I have searched and searched for an answer with no luck.

No. Dual Monitor support requires the server (the computer you're connecting to) to be RDP6 or better (Vista). You can use dual monitors with an XP client and the RDP6 client if the server is vista or 7 (or 2008) but not the other way around.

The XP computer I am connecting to does have Remote Desktop Connection (Terminal Services Client 6.0) - if this is indeed what you are referring to. I even attempted to install the update found here: Remote Desktop Connection (Terminal Services Client 6.0).

Do we know if the RDP 7.0 will be available for XP? If so, will this possibly allow the multimon true dual monitor remote desktop session from a windows 7 to a host running xp?

Thanks again for your help!

I think you need to read what I wrote again. The RDP6 client allows you to view multiple monitors. It doesn't do anything to the server (the machine you're connecting to). It's a client only.

No, XP has only RDP5, and will not have RDP6 or 7.
