As an owner of a VW now for almost 10 years, I do like my car. And it's quite a high quality vehicle. However, when something does need to be replaced, I sure feel it in my pocketbook.
Seems like build quality in the US is restricted by
1). Workers demanding highest salaries possible
2). Consumers demanding lowest cost for their car
I remember shopping for my VW Passat and I asked about price. They referred me to the website where the MSRP was listed. I said, well, I know what the window sticker says, but what kind of deal can I get on the car. Their response, back in 2002, You will pay what the sticker says...we don't deal, we can hardly keep the cars on the lot, so if you don't want to pay retail, somebody else will.
