ou can argue the Earth is flat or that man never really landed on the moon, but if you really want to avoid looking foolish, then don't tell anyone Intel is deliberately stalling USB 3.0 long enough for LightPeak to drive a stake in the competing transfer interface. Actually, Intel has long held that the two aren't really competitors at all, and putting its money where its mouth is, Intel went out and received SuperSpeed USB 3.0 certification for its upcoming 7 Series and C216 chipset families.

ive only come across "lightpeak" or thunderbolt as its known on macs? just an adaption of mini display port. Bet its just going to be another firewire, which i can say i have never used! USB just works

Lightpleak/thunderbolt has a lot of potential. From my understanding, you could get a Thunderbolt accessory which is basically a "tower" with PCIe ports and a SATA III controller with room for a bunch of HDDs.

Problem is, Thunderbolt doesn't seem to be standard on the next generation chipsets, so It may take a while for it to become more mainstream.

USB 3.0 has been shoehorned into motherboard for a little while (my cheapo Mobo has USB 3.0), so SUB 3.0 pheripals should start to be more readily available soon.

Thunderbolt has the potential not only for linking drives, displays, and other hardware... but could act as hyper-speed ethernet if routers are adapted to have a TB interface, and therefore an intranet portal too, and myriad other roles could also be covered. Like any emerging technology, it's not going to be readily adopted though.

USB-III is a joke. It barely offers anything in advance of hotswappable eSATA, and there are still relatively few peripherals which offer driver friendly functionality. I thought we were going to see wireless USB at some point; yet it's never seemingly got off the ground at all yet.

Yay even more batteries to change.. I like cables lol.
