Hello,

I have always used an external monitor when using windows vista and now that i have upgraded to windows 7 when i plug in my external monitor it flashes on and off. I have changed the refresh rate on the monitor and all it does is change how fast the external monitor flashes. Also, I had this problem when using windows vista and I changed a setting in windows task scheduler and it fixed it. Tried doing the same thing in 7 and the problem is still there. In addition, I tried using a different monitor cable and the problem is still there. If anyone has any solutions please please let me know.:D

Starting with the model of your monitor and system specs will help :)

I had the same issue... about 5 minutes of flickering after booting up on my second monitor after upgrading to windows 7.

I fixed it by flashing the BIOS.

Actually ignore that. Still have the problem. Flashing the BIOS hasn't fixed it.

I had exactly the same problem with an ATI card and the solution was to turn off (uncheck) 'allow ATI overdrive'. I know you said you have a NVidia card, but maybe you have a similar setting somewhere? Anyhow, thought I would post my solution in case it helped somebody.
