My new 8 GB RAM isn't being used on my CQ57 - 315NR

I have recently installed 2-4GB DDR3-1333 (PC3 10600) SODIMM Kit of 2 CT51264BF1339.M16FMR. Sorry if that is too much information on the new memory but I just wanna make sure that I have complete details posted.

After I installed the RAM, I immediately checked my computer properties which shows the 8GBs of RAM installed. I understand that the computer doesn't use the 0.4 GB of RAM but that is not my problem.

Here is my problem. I try to test my RAM by opening several programs with the highest memory using settings but the CPU hits 100% when it's only using 2.5 GB or less. These are the same results prior to installing the extra memory. (I only had 2GB of RAM at the time but the results haven't changed.)

I am stuck with the same problem after calling technical support from the website that I ordered my RAM from. Crucial They instructed me too wait a few days and that the computer would get accustomed to the new memory enhancement but the performance hasn't improved in the past 5 days since installation. If anyone person could help me with my problem, I would be extremely grateful.

Hi Daven,

I may be wrong here, but your Task manager screen capture implies that the processes you are running require CPU resources, and not additional RAM. I don't see any problems at all.

Which processes/programs are you running?

Regards,
Golden

I was running Minecraft, League of Legends, a Chrome browser with multiple tabs opened and a Skype video call while I took the screenshot. How is it that i can use that 4393MB of extra RAM? My computer doesn't feel any faster after the installation of the 2-4GB RAM sticks.

CPU usage and RAM usage are unrelated.

If you want to stress test it and see results use something like Passmark.

Ahh, I had no clue if they did or not. I'm going to try Passmark out and see what I get.

Could you possibly give me a link to the software that I would use? I wouldn't know where to begin.

There is nothing wrong with your RAM. Unless you run CAD programs, your RAM usage will not get a lot higher. Have a look at mine.

Ohh ok. I was hoping that more RAM would make programs run faster. So installing extra RAM is for what use?

Think of your CPU as the boiler, and your RAM as an expansion tank... ;)

Yeah, a lot of people think the same. You get a minor performance improvement because the system can do more caching. But you may not even notice that.

You had better spent your money on an SSD. That gives a BIG performance boost.

Ahh, an SSD upgrade may come in the future since the recommended ones are exceeding $600

To get the benefit, you don't have to spend over 150 for an 80 GB or so drive.

Just put Windows and programs on it.

Put your data on a standard spinning drive.

This is ridiculous. My most expensive SSD cost $135 - a 90GB Vertex2. My last one from last week was $104 - a 60GB Crucial M4 which is ample for the OS and programs.

I was looking for a SSD with at least 100GB of space because I am a gamer and I tend to download many games onto my laptop.
