Hi
I'm getting a blank screen when my computer boots up. Not even a Bios screen or anything. But, Win 7 seems to boot up fine in the background. I can hear the welcome chime in the background after a little bit.
I was in the process of putting in a new SSD when this happened. Tried to unplug it and restart, but same problem. Now I have everything else unplugged but the graphics card, and the old hdds. Still nothing but blank screen.
I'm wondering if it's the graphics card or the power supply that are spotty. Fan is spinning on the graphics card, but I'm not sure what to make of that by itself.
Not quite sure what to do now....

You might have the splash turned off in the bios. Have you checked the settings in there. When the computer boots start hitting the button to get you into the bios seeing as you can't see it.

Sorry - good point, I was probably not clear enough.
I don't have the splash screen turned off.... I used to get it just fine.

The issue is that I can't see anything on the screen - ever. I'm just staring at a blank screen. The only reason I know windows is booting up is because I hear the chime in the background. But, there is no logo, no anything.
And yes, my monitor is plugged in and the cable is connected. :)
It just all of a sudden started this intermittently as I put the new SSD in and now it seems to be black all the time...

Hi

Recheck your physical connections i.e. monitor etc.
If you have a spare power supply on hand, then try swapping your power supplies.
Had the same problem recently, thought it was a monitor failure but later found out my 4-yr old power supply was on it's last legs :)

Take care and Happy New Year

Edit - best way to check if the PS is sufficient is to remove the Graphics card and connect directly to on board VGA if it is available on your motherboard.

Now I'm with you. I though everything was black till you got to windows.

Maybe the video card got bumped when you installed the SSD?? Try reseating it.

I don't have onboard VGA and tried swapping the SSD - no luck....
I did start it up with the PCI-e power cables unplugged from the video card. Again, windows booted fine (chime), but not a flicker on the screen.

Other than swapping out the PS and VC I don't know what to do - and I don't have the spare parts to do that....

Have you tried what hipster proposed i.e. re-seat the Video card?
The next best option would be try a different monitor to isolate if it is a monitor issue - what happens if you power on just the monitor on it's own? What connection do you have for your monitor?

Regards

Does the monitor come on when you start your PC, i.e. does it come out of standby and try to display anything?

If yes, do you ever get a message from the monitor along the lines of "no input detected"? Or is it simply black and nothing else?

I tried out a new graphics card and the monitor works fine, along with everything else.
I also swapped in a different power supply with the old MSI card and I still get nothing but black on the monitor. So, at this point, I'm guessing that the MSI video card is toast and that I need a new one. It's less than a year old, so I'm hoping it's covered under warranty. Anyone ever deal with MSI customer support?

Thanks for all the suggestions and Happy New Year!

Hi
Thanks for the feedback and appreciated.
sorry have no experience with RMA's - where I'm at its usually not an option so i have to try and resolve issues when purchasing an item :)

Hopefully some other members on the site will help out on the RMA process
Happy New Year and regards
