Win 7 x64 update KB2656351 seems to download and install smoothly, but within a few minutes it wants to update again and again. It doesn't matter how many times I update. It doesn't ask for rebooting, but if I do it doesn't make a difference either.

Comment

No help here just a comment. I am seeing more threads on this update. I a begining to think this update is "funky". At the same time I installed it I developed a bug but have since got it to install with out any apparent probs.

Hello, and welcome to the Seven Forums!

Two causes for a repeatedly offered successful update. Either the update is bad, and Microsoft will re-release it within a week or so (it was a very rushed update, I can tell you that now), and you should notice the file size change and the update will suddenly install, or you have an inconsistent transactional log file. The latter is easily fixed.
Restart your computer, install the update again, and tell me whether it is re-offered again.

You can see more details at my temporary tutorial here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/186275-windows-update-fix-repeatedly-offered-update.html

I shall reply back to you if and when this update is re-released.

Richard

Niemiro, I tried your advise, and updated after that, but nothing changed.
I'll wait for a week to see if Microflop re-releases the update.

Thanks for your help. There was a difference between the versions. However, it was Microsoft .NET Framework 4 client profile 4.0.30320 and Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Extended 4.0.30319.
Uninstalling and reïnstalling extended didn't help; the versions are still the same and it doesn't solve the problem.

I'll ask the Microsoft people.

Closer to the Truth

Hello,
This issue was probably not caused by Microsoft. Programmers who utilise dot-net framework are pointing users to bad code levels. My experience with this problem has shown that two updates, KB2461678 and KB2656369 (not the V2 version) have been loaded and one of these is the problem. Your issue may vary depending on the program that caused the installation of dot-net framework to be installed.

I have also discovered that it is best *not* to use any of the cleanup tools. They don't fix the problem and *may* delete useful files or cause other issues. Because this is most likely 3rd party caused, I doubt that anyone with a version of dot-net framework built into the OS will experience any problem. *Do* use the removal tool. *Do* use the installation link. These fix this issue. :D

In my experience, this is related to .Net Framework 4 full client installation and extended client. Whatever KBxx update is installed as windows update under extended client repeats itself at update checks. It is not dependeent on x86 or x64 or Win 7 and Vista. Nothing to do with Kies or other apps as well. I have spent 12 hours installing and trying that on 3 PCs: Vista 32 bit, Win 7 32 bit, Win 7 64 bit.
What I did is: right click on the update and select "hide": peace and quiet
