It happens every year: the hype, the commercials, the anticipation building until finally, the day is upon us. No, we're not talking about Christmas. We're talking about product release dates, which like Christmas often involve a heady rush of excitement - and sometimes involve a heartbreaking let down worse than a gift of socks.

Perhaps it's particularly bad for tech writers because we're on the front lines, thrilled to have something new to handle and review and write about. Perhaps it's worse for consumers, who shell out their hard-earned cash to wind up with a dud. So, we've chosen twenty-one things to avoid, lest you wind up with a shoddy build, user experience or product. It's our gift to you, a no BS take on the things that crossed our desks, the things that didn't live up to our expectations, and the things that just plain shouldn't see the light of day (SOPA, we're looking at you).

Ah, Siri - even with the über slick advertisements, the itty-bitty *sequences shortened* disclaimer down the bottom was a guarantee of fail.

And after a 5 min hands on with my sisters IP4S, even I had underestimated exactly how much the PR *sequences shortened* was *truth very much stretched*. I knew it was going to be bad - but not that bad.

My sister didn't really care for my several "I told you so's"

Siri - the voice activated assistant on the iPhone 4S mentioned on the last page of the article. It helps if people read the whole thing I guess

As for the ads - the advertisements show slick, satisfied customers seamlessly asking their phones useful questions like "Do I have an appointment today?" to which Siri, the voice activated assistant replies instantly and correctly.

Down the bottom of the commercial, in very small print, there is a disclaimer to that states *sequences shortened* for the advertisement.

What this means in the world of "advertising" is that there is no seamless interaction. The *shortened sequence* aspect culls the reality that you have to repeat yourself incessantly to which Siri still does not do the right thing. Ergo, the ad stretched the truth and Siri is bloody useless.

And after seeing the ad, my sister 'had to' upgrade her iPhone 3, despite the fact I pointed out what the *sequence shortened* meant. She was disappointed, I was right - and I could not resist telling her so

Clear now everyone?

I guess I don't have "stLight". Whatever that is.

Well Patrick that does clear it up. Siri was/is a borked phone feature, we know IP4S is an iPhone 4s. Just referring to Siri, IP4S, and slick ads made no sense. I've yet to see any ads though.

None of us who use IE8 or IE9 can see the page Shawn linked to. The link you provided to the last page, however, did work for me and I can use the Previous arrow to access page 2 of the article. Page one is still inaccessable.
