Local Network speed problem on LAN

I am having trouble with transfer speeds on my local network. 3 x Windows 7 PC's and one Linux Ubuntu. All computers are connected via gbit LAN setup in homegroup sharing (Ubuntu PC via Samba share).

When transfering files via Windows Explorer between the Windows PC's I get about 60-70 MB/s which is good. However when I transfer via FTP I only get about 11-12 MB/s, looks like speed is limited to 100mbit.

Also transfers in Windows Explorer between Ubuntu PC and any of the Windows PC's is limited in the same way (100mbit).

Anyone know what the problem could be? Any help greatly appreciated.

I am using Microsoft Security Essentials with built in Windows Firewall. And I am using high port numbers on FTP server (+40000). But like I wrote, I am also having the same speed problem when transfering to/from the Ubuntu PC in Windows explorer

All computers have onboard gbit NIC cards and connected via Netgear Gbit router. Cables are cat 5e. The Ubuntu PC goes via a gbit Netgear switch which also has a Linksys VoiP phone adapter connected to the same switch.

I am still thinking different posts for the 2 protocols.

I am not sure if I am following you... Are you saying that windows is limiting my speed on the FTP port? And that Windows Explorer is using port 80 to transfer files in the local homegroup and that there is no restrictions there?
