When a file is saved to the Desktop, its icon is not placed at the end

Sometimes when a file is saved to the Desktop on which some icons have already existed, the icon of the saved file is inserted between the last system icon (My Computer, Recycle Bin, etc) and the first ordinary icon.

Is there a way to make the icon of a newly saved file always automaticaly placed after all the other existing icons, so that I don't have to drag it manually?

No. Disabling "Auto arrange icons" is not the solution. I found that when I did the following:

Firstly, I disabled "Auto arrange icons". Then, I used the Firefox extension - "Screen Capture Elite" to take a screenshot of a web page. The screenshot was automatically saved to the Desktop as a PNG file. On the Desktop, the icon of that PNG file was still inserted between the special "Computer" system icon and the other (ordinary) icons.

I dragged the PNG's icon to the end. Now, the spot where the PNG's icon had resided before I dragged it became empty space. No icon took over that space. I suddenly realized what "Auto arrange icons" does, and it has nothing to do with the solution I'm looking for.

Upload a screen shot, so I can see exactly what you are talking about.

I think I'm not the only one to have this problem. Here is another thread on the same issue, for which no effective solution seems to have been offered. http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/36924-save-desktop-problems-2.html

@badger906,

> You can arrange files and icons by date added.

I think you mean "Sort by -> Date modified." I've tried that before. But no luck.

@okicombo,

Here is another example of the probelm I described:

Go to libmagic | Free software downloads at SourceForge.net

Click on the green Download button to download a .TAR.GZ file to the Desktop.

You will see the icon of that downloaded .TAR.GZ file is not placed after all other icons, but placed right after the "Computer" system icon, i.e., before all other icons.

The problem suddenly disappeared!

What I only did was opening Windows Explorer to Deskop from under Favorites. Changed the view setting among Tiles, Content and Details a few times. Settled down on Tiles. Nothing else.
