Solved Audiophile 2.1 sound system for Xonar D2X sound card.

I have given up on getting a good 5.1 or 7.1 sound system for my pc since it requires a receiver and all.

What I am looking for right now is a 2.1 sound system that can be directly plugged in to my Asus Xonar D2X sound card. The system should have a really decent subwoofer with tight and deep bass. As for the speakers, they should be able to produce crisp sound at high volume.

My current sound system can no longer handle high pitch sound without the buzzing
I am no expert in this matter, but I've been looking around a lot with no luck.
No real budget limitation, if its worth it I will get it

You could look at something from Audioengine, M-Audio, or the Klipsch 2.1 system. Read plenty of reviews though. I know you want 2.1, but if I were buying now I'd probably go with the M-Audio Studiophile AV 40.

My 2 cents.

I've been looking around at Audioengine and M-Audio websites to realize that I will have to make my own 2.1 system by getting speakers and pairing them with a sub, so I'm down to two options:
1. Audio engine:
Speakers: Audioengine 5+
Sub: Audioengine S8

2. M-Audio:
Speakers: M-Audio BX5 D2
Sub: SBX10

I am leaning towards Audioengine, I like the additional audio input.
All have really good reviews, so I still don't know which to choose.

Looking at the Amazon 1 star reviews on the M-Audios I don't know if I'd go with those. Someone can always get an electronic item that is bad, but when I read reviews speaking of quality control problems a red flag goes up because of my experience with the Klipsch Promedia 5.1s. M-Audio has a one year warranty, Audioengine a three year warranty.

My experience with the Klipsch Promedias was like many others who bought them, and would make me pay attention to the worst reviews where people have had quality issues. The Klipsch forums are still rife with stories of certain components of the BASH amp going bad. I had two systems quit within weeks which were replaced under the warranty I bought from CompUSA. The third set quit after about 3.5 years and I had it repaired a couple of years ago by a third party.

It's difficult to find quality speakers (both sound and longevity) to use with a computer unless you just go with a receiver, but then you're not using the computer except as a source. The worst reviews at Amazon on the Audioengines speak of muddied bass. I'd probably give the Audioengines a try since you get a 3 year warranty and the 30 day audition. If they don't sound good to you send them back and try something else.

I think I will give the Audioengines a try. hope they are as good as they say.
I'll get the 5+ speakers and the S8 sub and see how they sound together.

It has a been more than a week since I got my new Audioengine sound system ,5+ and S8. I believe I'm past the break-in period. I have my sub connected to my speaker through the variable output connection.

I must say that it was a surprise for me when I first listened to a FLAC track; There was no humming or buzzing from the speakers and the sound was way crisper than my previous sound system (Logitech X-540). the sub is way louder and packs more punch with a lot less boomyness. I can practically shake the house. lol.

What I liked most about the speakers is the additional input. I can plug in my iphone whenever I feel like it. No need to have my pc on to enjoy some songs. Also I always though it was impossible to get a decent surround sound system without a receiver but I can just buy another speaker pair (i.e. Audioengine 5+) and connect them to the side and rear outputs in my soundcard and BAM! surround. Only it would be 4.1 or 6.1.
