unable to safely remove external hard drive

Hey guys I have a question involving an external hard drive and windows 7 libraries. I have this external hard drive (WD500GB My book) which has all my backup information (as per Windows Backup feature; great stuff) as well as all my music and movies. I really like the idea of using libraries to list all the music and movies from both my internal and external hard drives in one place; so I've included the external hard drive folders in the various libraries. The problem I run into is that I cannot safely remove the external hard drive; it refuses to do so.

I know it is due to the external being included in the libraries and not due to Windows Backup storage location being the external hard drive because I kept the Windows Backup settings the same (with the storage being the external hard drive) and removed the folders on the external from the libraries and it safely removes fine.

I realize I could set it so that write cacheing is disabled and I could remove it whenever, but this yields lesser performance (correct?) I'd rather keep write cacheing on; is there any way for me to include the external hard drive in the libraries while having the ability to safely remove the hard drive?

Thanks in advance

WD has released all new software for the MyBook series drives; I had the same problem you mention and after installing the new Drive Manager and MyBook software it is working nicely for me now.
