Solved All online stores out of stock of HD7970

I was checking NewEgg and Other various online retailers and the HD7970 is already out of stock on release

Im debating should i go ahead and Purchase one ,also wondering would it be worth it i already have a HD6870 that does a good job but im looking for more intense speeds and better graphic presentation and this seems to be the one so far

Give me some opinions im looking to get it at the end of the month since it is sold out everywhere

if you have the money go for it, ive not seen many benchmarks for it as of yet so cant comment on its performance.

weather its leaps and bounds above a 6970 or 6990 i dont know. not a huge fan of being an early adopter when it comes to graphics cards, ive done it before, and been plagued with driver issues, and poor performance until things are sorted.

@Ivan it is on the Step side ,I also took in mind the price drop of the 6900 series and it would be just as solid with atleast a 250.00 dollar difference

@Badger i do agree about early adapter but i did it also with my 6870 which has been awesome since purchase

I got till the end of the month also i was concered about the PCI being 3.0 and compatability with what's out there right now

I do have one of the latest boards on the market but doesn't represent the 3.0 pci bus

So what do you guys think would a 6970 2gb do me the same justice as the new KING as they call it ?

Also im not really sold on visiontek or powercolor or saphire / I will be looking towards Diamond / XFX / MSI Twin frozer

Also just to mention reason for upgrade got a 300.00 xmas bonus and willing to add the extra $ for the card .....But willing to listen to better opinions and right now im playing tons of games but nothing more demanding then the ussual Dead island /Bullet storm / and many other tittles that takes a little more graphic detail

6950 Crossfire runs about the same speed as a single 7970.
Added benefits of a single card is no crossfire issue, less heat, and an extra GB of VRam.
a pair of 2GB 6950's is slightly cheaper than a 7970.
a member on another forum I am on just tested his 7970 today and compared it to his crossfire 6950 setup.

Some games have problems with dual cards...tri cards seem to scale better for some reason

See this is the reason i needed information on this

I myself could easily run another 6870 in xfire but really dont want the extra stress on my unit

as for it being in the same league as a 6950 is not to disapointing

as to what i was saying the 3.0 bus is bottlenecked

So I would say a 2 gb 6970 not interested in flashing bios on a 6950 to achieve 6970 performance

a 6970 2 gb would probally be the way to go for about 350.00 ?

This is pretty much what I expected and probably most of you expected. It's just about dead even between the two. To choose an HD 7970 over 6950 crossfire, you're paying a $50 to $100 premium for slightly better min. framerates....and most importantly...BETTER framerates with a little over half the power draw and a full gig more of vRAM for higher resolutions. Smooth as butter vs the occasional stutter with a Crossfire set-up. I saw temps hit 80c...but the fan was bearable in my opinion.

I might have better overclocking potential but 1075 / 1550 is where I feel safe 24/7 ATM.

For some reason at least in several builds by Maximum PC the editors seem to prefer tri fire systems.....Yes it's a four slot 16x board, but to do that you will need a major PSU upgrade

Have you considered just getting more of the same cards you already have?

Well i did i dont want crossfire due to added heat

Pwn as far as the new craz not really was planning on the upgrade along with the cpu when i orginally built the bulldozer rig

the sad thing is the chip was a bust so i am better off with the 965 be i have and just upgrade my card the 7000 series seems nice but im thinking of just going with a 6970 i dont see them being available in the near future due to them going nuts over it

Im sure i will see a price drop in the card im looking at i did look at a 6950 still probally go with a little better

also my 6870 can go in the other rig i have for gaming and my dad can use the 5770 for better video encoding and feeds for a hd tv

About heat issue's hmmmm what do you think ? should i also get a different 6870 from the one i have or get the identical one ?

I think im ready to do a drive by if it makes sense give me some more opinions im excited

With that case and fans heat shouldn't really be much of a issue

I am like 99.999% sure the brand doesn't matter that much.....

It's a option of course, but a lot depends on the games you play and if the can scale to 2 or more gpu's
