Solved USB3 card - USB2 Iomega HD - autoplay issue from sleep mode

I am running a HP P6228p desktop Win7 64bit Home Premium with all MS and HP updates applied. I installed a 2-port Sabrent PCI USB3 card, installed the driver for it from the web (Win7 failed to find an appropriate driver on its own) and moved my Iomega USB2 external HD from a USB2 port where if functioned perfectly to one of the new USB3 ports. When I boot - no problems - but every time my PC awakes from sleep mode an autoplay window pops up asking me if I want to open the folder on the Iomega drive to view the contents. How can I stop this behavior on the USB3 port without screwing up autoplay/autorun for other things? In other words, how can I set the Iomega to not go into autoplay (when coming out of sleep mode) when on the USB3 port? btw - the only data on the Iomega drive are the data created by MS Backup.

1/21 - Oh c'mon guys. I know that one of you really Windows-smart people knows the answer. Help!

Sabrent support admitted that when Windows has the PC in Sleep Mode, the ASMedia chip on the card does not trickle enough current to keep the external hard drive alive, so when the PC is awakened, the HD causes AutoPlay to pop. There is no fix or reasonable workaround. So, I've returned the card to Frys and uninstalled the USB3 driver. The Sabrent card is the only USB3 upgrade card sold by Frys in their Austin store. Next, I think I'll try the Western Digital 2-port PCIx-USB 3.0 card which uses NEC chips & which also does not require an additional power cable. The many Amazon customer reviews I read about the WD card were very good, but the Amazon price of $37 will probably keep me waiting for a sale because I don't yet own any USB3 devices anyway. Also, I'm waiting for the price of WD's My Book 2TB or 3TB external HD to come down.

1/6/2013 - I installed a WD USB3 card and WD My Book 2TB USB3 HD and it has not until now gone into Autoplay when coming out of Windows sleep mode.

So are you still having the same problem? If so, I would presume the problem lies with the ext. hdd not maintaining a constant power source. So when your desktop goes into sleep mode and then awakens it's picking up the ext. hdd as if being attached for the first time which unfortunately starts the pop up.

Question; why do you use the usb 3.0 port of add on card with a usb 2.0 device? There is no benefit of data transfer speed as the device is backwards compatible and will revert to the speed of the usb 2.0 device

I used the USB3 port with the USB2 device simply because I had no USB3 devices at the time and wanted to verify that the USB3 port was working. The USB3 HD works fine in the USB3 PCI port. My PC has no native USB3 MB ports.
