Any theories on how long before HDDs return to pre-flood prices?

I'm afraid I might have a failing hard drive (here are the details: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-...akes-sleep-mode-now-w-clunking-noise-hdd.html ), but I'm not sure if that is the problem. If it is about to fail, I'm wondering how long I might have to wait before hard drives become affordable again. I am on a pretty thin budget, otherwise I wouldn't worry about the timeline.

I've heard it would be at least the middle of this year, at the best guesses.

While many analysts have stated that production should be back to normal by the end of Summer 2012, others are now projecting shortages until the end of 2012 at the very least, primarily because many of the components are surprisingly single source supplied.

That's messed up. Of course the biggest tragedy is the loss of life in Thailand, but if that was 25% of the hdd production, why did prices rise 250%? Just the producers trying to turn a bigger profit because of the opportunity they had with people purchasing out of fear?

Saw a statement last week from the CEO of Seagate and he stated that they predict full production around Dec of 2012 and prices to come back to old levels in mid 2013. He was even thinking about holding an auction to their distributors as the supply is very short.
