Hi Everyone,

Okay so I have a WDC WD5000BEVT-75A0RT0 Laptop hardisk , and just in recent times it gave me an error from Windows 7 and when I boot my laptop saying that S.M.A.R.T found an error, and backup your data immediately the HDD is going to fail. Now I am quite a power user , and understand computer's quite well, but my laptop is just a year old (out of my warranty period) , now how can this happen? I don't rough use my laptop at all, I didn't notice any hardware failure problems related to the HDD no clicking noises, I think its more to do with the software ? Please help me out

I ran a chkdsk and everything came out normal for my drive C: which is the WD drive.

What do I do next?

hard drives can just fail, no matter there age. when something spins at 5400rpm+ something can fail. And especially on a laptop, as constant movment and bumping can cause drives to run off balance or be shocked.

Prepare for the worse and back everything up just in case. if you transport your laptop a lot id recommend an SSD, as no moving parts means no shock damage, plus the added speed bonus is like a new laptop :D

The first thing to do is backup all of your personal files. Then download Western Digital's diagnostic test, Data Lifeguard and test the drive. And, Badger is right. An SSD will make you think you have a new laptop, plus they create less heat, the downfall of all laptops.
