Is it possible to mix my own sound?

I listen to pandora through firefox. From what I understand this is based off of Flash, and so far the only way to play Flash is through OS default. (thanks, Adobe..)

Unfortunately, I also play a game which was lazily coded as well. (BF3) There is no way that I know of to change the sound output from system default as you can in many other games.

Is there any way at all short of buying a stack of stereo equipment or 2nd computer to get BF3 through my 7.1 wireless headset, while playing music through my 2.1 speakers? I need 7.1 in the headset for accurate game sense, and playing music through there is too distracting. It's fine if outside the headset tho.

I've heard of things like "virtual sound output" and such, but not sure if that's the right avenue to try here. Thoughts?

your situation is extremely unique can it be done? I don't know..it might not be possible.

The most i have ever done is set my 5.1 system playing a movie and then got a call through my comp and was talking to someone at the same time through headset hooked up to my comp.

What i had was SPDIF set to default and then had a secondary source run my headset for my phone.

Correct me if i am wrong.

Your head set is set up for gaming via usb and wireless.

Your 2.1 speakers are set up via soundcard.

Could you go to the speaker icon next to the time right click it

Then go playback devices.

Could you set your 2.1 speakers to a secondary other than phone?

If that dosent work ill have to think of something else.

Some programs let you set the sound to go out of a specific device.

Like if i wanted to watch a movie it would ask if i want it to play through 2.5mm jacks on back, SPDIF, or hdmi

I found another idea that might be more of a help than my first reply

I have a program called media player classic.

Download something called K-lite codec pack and it should come with media player classic

It is free and you should find it pretty easy on Google

It will probably ask you lots of question in the installation process

When it is done installing open media player classic.

Click view

Click options

When it loads up the option page got to "Output" under the "playback" section

Click on "DirectShow Audio" and select the sound system you want to play the music.

Click Apply

Just Default Device, and Default communication device.

As far as setting the program, BF3 has no official way of doing that although it may be possible through editing config files somewhere. I don't know of a way to alter Flash output either. Pandora uses Flash I believe.

1. How do you have your 7.1 headset hooked up?
2. How do you have your speakers hooked up?

1) 7.1 headet: USB Wireless receiver/soundcard (comes with Logitech G930)

2) 2.1 Speakers: On-board audio by Realtek.

note: I also Have a USB TurtleBeach Amigo 2 for use if necessary to hook 2.1 speakers up to, but limited on available ports so this should be avoided if possible.

The second solution i gave you was for playing cd's and mp3's and other audio files

I haven't been been able to figure out how to get your Pandora to work on your 2.1 speakers as it is through the internet.

The only solution i have been able to come up with is for media that you have purchased.

As for the Pandora.. without having someone program an add-on for firefox that would tell the sound to go to a specific audio device such as your 2.1 speakers.... like media player classic can i don't know what to say.

That would be the best solution since many, many users could benefit from such an addon. From my limited research into that, it seems the reason it hasn't been done is because it is coded within the OS at a lower level than the browser itself. Supposedly, when you stream audio it is going straight through HTTP (or some other protocol) and into your sound drivers, pretty much bypassing any browser tweaks you could do. To make matters worse, the sound played through Pandora is supposedly Flash-based and Adobe has yet to implement any way of tweaking the sound that plays through their Flash program. This is what happens when you let 1 company sit on a monopoly for a program that virtually everyone must use. (Silverlight is starting to look more attractive now... yay for competition!)
