I have created a system repair CD.
Before I make a backup of my hard disk on an external USB hard disk, I decided to test if the system repair CD will allow me to restore my hard disk from a backup on a USB hard disk. The usb HD was not recognized from the system repair environment so I tried to load the USB driver but the driver .sys file was nor recognized either:mad:

Is there another way I can restore a backed up version of my HD from a USB portable HD when Windows fails to startup?

Hi,

I think the easiest solution would be to create a system image of your hard disk. I prefer using FREE MACRIUM REFLECT for that:

Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download

The software works like this:

1. You create a system image of your hard disk, and store it to a USB drive
2. You create a bootable CD

When you need to recover your PC, you boot from the bootable CD, and the browse to the image on your USB drive. The image is restored to your PC exactly the same as the day you made the image.

Its very easy to use, but here is a tutorial that will help you out if you need it:

Thanks Golden! From your description the software sounds a lot like Norton Ghost except I don't trust Ghost.

Macrium Reflect will even come in handy when my system slows down and needs a reformat and install everything.
