USB Sticks slow transfer speeds, system takes forever to load drivers

Hi-have been struggling with my system taking 2-3 minutes to find drivers for any memory stick I plug in to any of 3 USB ports on my Acer 1810T. When the process finally completes, the transfer speeds are about 1MB/s or less.

Another (possibly related?) problem is when I insert any SD card in the dedicated slot for the first time, everything is fine. Once I remove and either re-insert (or insert a different card), nothing appears. I get a message saying "process is already in memory". I have to reboot to get things working again.

Any advice greatly appreciated,

Fugue

Hello fugue,

Are you properly ejecting all devices? There should be an option to safely remove devices.

Do you have all windows updates installed?

Go into device manager and look for any exclaimation marks. If you see some, update those drivers.

For SD cards use 'Eject' - NOT safely remove which may cut off the power to the port.

Did you ever check the speed of your stick - e.g. with HD Tune http://www.hdtune.com/

thanks for the replies, Dusty and WHS. Had already tried your recommendations before I posted, but they make no difference. My OS is updated, and Win 7 reports no new drivers to be found. Any other ideas? Fugue

kinda off topic, but whats the significance of posting your username under your posts when we can clearly see what your username is if we just look a few inches to the left?

Unfortunately, Fogue, I do not own an SD card so I am not entirely sure what the problem is. Are there any drivers you need to install with it?

You might try googling it to find out more about it.

Same reason I have my name in my signature. It is to make posts more personable and plasant. It comes from the days of mail (non-email) where you would have to sign your name at the end to let someone know who wrote the note.

And there isn't a reason not to. It ads your 'personalized touch' to the end of each message
