Solved Ram upgrade on my new laptop

So I just bought myself this lappy, home premium 64 bit

HP Pavilion g7-1365dx Notebook PC Product Specifications - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

comes with 4Gb of ram and I want to max it out to 8.

I ran the crucial scanner and it gave me this info,

SIW gives me this info,

it also says wrong values reported by bios.

Anyway, I'm hoping for a little insight from a more experienced hardware guru.

I'm looking at these,

What does CPUz say? My bet, it is right and Crucial is probably right.

Also, according to SIW, it is running 1600 rm which is unusual for a laptop.

Well, that didn't help much, did it? Why not pull one of the ram syicks and see what it says. Also, see what bios says it is. I don't recall CPUz not being able to read the ram.

It is a little confusing. I'll check the bios and look at the stick and get back to you.

What are you trying to accomplish? Best Memory or siw reporting wrong? SIW is universal and does not always read winfast sensors correctly...

It really doesn't matter, to be honest. If you want the best results, you'll be buying an identical chip to the one you have now. Or, you can sell it and buy a kit that has matching 4 GB sticks.

Worrying about the speeds, because your laptop will automatically set them anyway, likely giving you no options to adjust.

deacon is absolutely right. My Daughter's laptop had 2GB of very slow ram. I upgraded it with a matched set of 4GB of faster ram. The winsat score is lower now than it was before. And the ram is within the motherboard specs.

Thanks Steve, I can live with a lower score as long as the performance increases.

I think you will be happy with that ram. I've always thought that more ram is better than faster ram (unless you can have both:D) I know that my Daughter's laptop, even though it gets lower winsat scores, sure operates much better.

If I bought factory ram from dell it would have been an ok safe bet but more expensive and slightly slower.
People have laptops with isolated incompatabilities sure, but the g-skill I got from newegg rocks and passed the diagnostic memtest 100%. What a difference it made. And that's with ddr2, seems I bought it just in time price went back up a week later.

I hate the smell of friggin corn chip butt breath snacks.
Even if the memory was a little slower, you'd hardly notice. The gains for having an extra 4 GB of memory, especially if you doing something that will need that much, will far outweight any minor "speed" decrease.
