Is there a non-intrusive free anti-virus?

This is going to sound silly, ridiculous and rather picky. It is what it is, if you think I'm being irrational (I am) no need to reply.

I am looking for an anti-virus that has nothing coded into it to ever pop a misc. window up in front of your active, full-screen windows by default. Pop-ups related to the purpose of the anti-virus (to detect virus, etc.) are obviously fine.

MSE - Pops up on a timer when I've turned the firewall off to remind me.
avast! - Pops up on a timer asking you to register
AVG - Pops up on a timer asking you to do an initial scan + forces you to do scan

Here's the thing... even if these can be changed/disabled I'm not interested. The simple fact that they'd include it by default -knowing full well that people have their utility enabled at all times- is not acceptable to me. Do I really need to lose 4 hours of work just because I didn't go through every settings tab when I setup my AV? So I look elsewhere as I don't support this kind of intent to begin with. It's how I roll, I suppose.

Avira I could not download; was getting speeds under 10 kbps.

Any suggestions? I'm running nothing right now. Just looking to play some Skyrim in peace, rofl.

The commercial version of McAfee Anti-Virus Enterprise 8.8i will never bug you for anything if you set it up that way. However it will cost you, I think the smallest you can buy is a 5 user license. -WS

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yeah, I'm a firm believer that AVs should be free or very close to free. Mainly because the bulk of the service is only possible through relaying information between customers. Throw an ad on the program, that's about all the profit that's deserved xD.

How do you guys find "Panda Cloud Antivirus" to be?

I find MSE to be totally unobtrusive - in fact, I don't remember any popups at all, ever. As far as losing 4 hours of work, I really don't know what you're talking about.

Never have liked Panda, they seem to be the worst at what you don't want, always in your face. Plus every machine that has had it installed that I have gone to repair has had a virus on it. Panda seems to miss a lot of viruses or they get past it very easily.

+1 on the MSE I have it installed and it never seems to have any pop-ups. -WS

I've used MSE dince it was first released and have no problems with it whatsoever.

It warns me if it spots a suspect file and tells me when it has got rid of the threat.

Put it this way, I'd run with MSE thsan run with nothing. Now that is asking for trouble. :)

I don't ever see popups with MSE either and I have been using it for a long time. It's more or less silent. It does prompt me every now and again to perform a scan. As far as losing 4 hours of time, I haven't spent 4 hours of time in MSE in the entire time I have had it.

Hmmm. Is it possible that there is something wrong with my system where full-screen apps are launching as windowed @ 1080p? It's happened with a whole host of apps with avast! but only with Skyrim and VLC for MSE.

MSE - Pops up on a timer when I've turned the firewall off to remind me.

That is probably "Action Center" that is notifying you about the firewall.
You can turn it off in Notification Area Icons > System Icons.

I say that, because MSE wouldn't care about your firewal. Action Center does.
