Hello,

I've got this problem for quite some time now, whenever I try to install something (most of the time games) , most of the time it will show the pre loader (initializing/preparing installation, gathering information etc etc) but after that it doesn't show anything. If I look in processes in task manager I see processes like TrustedInstaller.exe, IDriver.exe *32, msiexec.exe, setup.exe *32, IDriverT.exe *32 , ISBEW64.exe and msiexec.exe *32.

Sometimes if I leave my laptop for some time all these proceses are gone and the game is installed, but thats about 1/4th of the time. It al started when I tried to install Rome total war I think, or perhaps Pirates of the Caribbean. After that my problem started. Even some games I could install before with no problem won't install now.

I've looked through some things, like the installshield map (C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\InstallShield) and I don't think all the things there are allright, but on their website you can't really find a thing, Although I've found some update/repair things there (like : InstallShieldEngineUpdate901.exe) . Most of them install without any problem.

This night I completed a "repair install" I've found on this site, but it didn't fix the problem.

Any of you know what this could be and how it could be fixed?
Anyhow thanks for reading this and for any help in advance.

If you have UAC turned off try setting it back to the recommended setting. I don't know why but sometimes turning it off screws up some program installers. It seems like they get to where you would normally get the UAC prompt and then just stall.

Thanks for your fast reply alpha,
I've tried to turn UAC on but it only promps me when I want to start the setup. Then It runs through all the pre information loading and after that nothing.

I´ve put UAC on normal, perhaps it needs to be higher?

Try a clean reinstall with no subsequent tweaking beyond normal System settings. You likely have corruption which was somehow allowed to pass back through during Repair Install.

Adapt these steps to get a perfect reinstall and maintain it: Reinstalling Windows 7

You can also scour the logs and use system resources, test hardware using these troubleshooting steps but they lead up to a Repair Install as a last resort before reinstalling so you've already skipped a lot by going there.

I just set it to the default 3/4 ways up. My suggestion was more of a stab in the dark than anything. I've only even had what I described above happen to me once and I think something else may have been going on at the time. I did a clean install shortly afterward and haven't noticed those symptoms since. It was only by chance that I turned UAC back on and the program I was having problems with installed OK.

Hmmm,

Yeah I've searched for and tried a lot of things but my problem isn't really decribed anywhere, most of the time people get an error.

I've hoped to avoid a clean install but I guess it must be done if I want to install my things the right way..

Thanks for the tips anyway you guys:)
