Help with color calibration resetting. Acer S232HL 23' monitor.

I'm using the Acer eDisplay Management software to calibrate the color of my monitor. It looks amazing up until I enter a full screen application or try running a program as administrator, then it just resets itself back to default settings (or whatever settings I had previously, but without the color calibration.). Anyone have a solution? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I have an Acer Aspire 5742 with Intel GMA HD. 4 gigs of ram, and an i5 460m. I do not want to use the standard windows color calibration, nor do I want to use Intel's from the graphics options.

Since it's a TN panel colour calibration is virtually futile, the minute your gaze shifts so too will the contrast, therefore your perception from one minute to the next will vary.

Visit TFT Centrals website and see if they have a custom made colour profile for your monitor, or otherwise use manual calibration with a device like a spider.

This really isn't a solution at all. TFT Centrals has no color profiles, and buying extra hardware is out of the question.

You can rent spider calibration gear, I don't believe I suggested purchasing it... but as I've also already said, calibrating a TN panel is futile... just Google for an ICC profile for your monitor, and if TFT Central don't have one then somewhere else will of course... ;)

Not really interested in renting any calibration gear, I just want my monitor not revert back to previous settings. I like the way it looks when the colors are calibrated, so saying it's futile is like, your opinion, man. Could not get any results for any ICC profiles for the monitor either. :(

Any other solutions?

If the software you're using is changing the monitor's internal settings and not playing with the video LUT and if the monitor works the same way as my Acer x243 then setting changes made with software won't stick unless you switch the monitor off. That causes it to save the current User-Mode settings.

I had no difficulty finding the colour profile and inf driver for your monitor.

They're attached.

Unfortunately, powering off the monitor then powering it on does not save the color calibration. It still resets when I enter a full screen app.

Qdos, where do I place the ICC file and the options file? Thank for finding that for me as well.

The odds are without the INF file the monitor is reverting to a generic "plug n' play" type after entering a full screen application.

To install the INF driver do as follows:-

Right-click on the desktop then select Screen resolution.

Click Advanced Settings.

Select the Monitor tab.

Click Properties.

Select the Driver tab then click Update Driver.

Select Browse my computer for driver software.

Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

Click Have Disk.

Specify path to this monitor INF then click Open.

Example: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\MONITOR

Click OK.

Confirm the correct display type, then click Next.

Windows has finished installing. Click Close.

Click Close for Display Propertries.

Click OK for the Monitor tab.

Click OK for the Display Settings.

To install the colour profile do as follows:-

Right-click on the desktop then select Screen resolution.

Click Advanced Settings.

Click the Colour Management Tab.

Click the Colour Management button.

Devices Tab.

Use the top drop down menu to identify the monitor.

Bottom left click add.

Browse to the Colour Profile file location.

Specify path to this monitor INF then click Open.

Example: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\MONITOR

Finally, click your way back out using OK all the way.

If this doesn't resolve the problem then look at your graphics drivers and settings :)

Thank you for your help, but unfortunately, still reverts back to normal. I'm wondering though, could this be a problem?:

You see how it says display 1|2 in the color management? When I click identify monitors the 1|2 shows up on the screen. But when I do Identify in 'Screen Resolution' it just says '2'. So maybe it is switching back to the generic plug and play...

Using the drop down box you have highlighted select the ghost device and if there is a colour profile for it then delete that profile. Search for an inf file that may exist which related to a previous monitor, it should not be hard to find - and delete it too.

Finding the inf file means searching for *.inf and specifying something you suspect would reside inside the file, like the make or model of your prior monitor, or it's resolution.

If you open the inf file I've provided in notepad you'll see the sort of content contained :)

I've deleted the color profiles, and there was only one other monitor I have ever hooked up to my laptop. I have done a search for the .INF for that monitor and there does not appear to be one.

I would be tempted to try a registry cleaner that allows you to make selective deletions in that case, but DO MAKE a full registry backup first as a precaution... :)
