If I clone the Recovery Partition from hdd #1 to hdd #2
will hdd #2 reinstall 7 in the computer I pulled hdd #1 out of?

7 has been erased from hdd #1
hdd #1 has a damaged data connector and only works when I hold the cable in place. I'll be using adifferent computer and ext hdd enclosure.

If you think it will work, what's a good free program to clone it?

   Information
We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.
startup repair disc-create

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

It depends how the oem has arranged their recovery program .

Usually there is a small .wim file on the recovery partition. That will be bootable and load into memory.

It contains an oem program which will find the larger .wim ( sometimes a lot of small split wims), which contain the restore image.

Those will be setup to restore the image to a particular place. Whether that will still work after moving it - doubtful.

However, you can use the wims to do it manually.

Suggest you make a copy of it anyway - then post screenshots of the contents - several pics as we need to see what is inside the folders on there.

Lots of apps will copy a partition - a partition manager like Partition Wizard free home edition, or easeus partition master free home edition , or macrium free I believe has a copy/clone type function.

I can't get that hdd to work again BUT my friend did make Recovery Discs. If it doesn't work, oh well eMachines gets $19.95 for disk.

Thank you for your time & help.
