Medal of Honor: Allied Assault crashes to the desktop

I'm on a FPS binge lately, yet Allied Assault will not work at all. Battlefield 1942, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, MoH Airborne, and CoD1 and its United Offensive expansion pack all work perfectly. Allied Assault on the other hand simply crashes the moment I click on it.

The screen will go black and simply say "Medal of Honor Allied Assault(TM) has stopped working." I have to use ctrl alt delete to close the error message. I've experimented with all the compatibility modes with no luck. I've installed all the patches as well- again, no luck. Its expansion packs will not work either, and all do the same crash and give the same error message. I've done two clean uninstallations and wiped its presence from the registry with no success. When I access the files, everything is normal. There are no missing paks.

Like I said, all other games from this time and even MoH Airborne work perfectly. Only Allied Assault crashes.

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

I did played Allied Assault a couple of months ago with no problems... I was on Ultimate 64 bit but I doubt it makes a difference?

Perhaps it is time to uninstall/install a fresh version of your video and audio drivers... if only to make sure that you have crossed all dots?

Sorry, can't help you more!

Hello beingthehero,
Have you tried to disable desktop composition under compatibility?

I see you have tried running the game in all of the compatiblity modes. You could maybe try re-installing although this time install as admin/compatibility SP3.

Also, maybe mess around with the config settings. I think it's in MOHAA/main/config

I have exactly the same OS and game as you. Have you:
Done all windows updates?
Run it in compatibility mode?
Patched the game to the latest version?
Run it as an administrator?
Try these. The game can be patched in the multiplayer menu if you can't find online downloads.

Edit: Also, please fill in your system specs so we may help you better.

If you have an AMD/ATI based videocard, you'll need an old version of the opengl driver and put it into the game folder.

I don't think this is the problem- I had an ATI card and it worked fine. It still works with my NVidia.

It is kind of error caused by drive missing or game file corrupt. How about reinstalling it?

If you haven't already tried this, then do, but otherwise all signs point to a faulty disc. That wouldn't be surprising, it is an old game. You can pick up a copy for about £2.99 new on Amazon.

Also, please fill in your system spec. Like I said, I have exactly the same OS and Windows spec as you, so it must be your copy. I even made a gameplay video on youtube of it quite recently here.

Sorry about the gross delay in replying. The game still crashes to the desktop. I don't think it's the disk; the Spearhead and Breakthrough expansion packs also crash to the desktop. Same thing happened when I downloaded the single player demo. Call of Duty 2 and MoH Airborne run perfectly and smoothly, yet Allied Assault just won't work.

Here are my specs:

I've already tried uninstalling/reinstalling multiple times, even deleting the registry keys. Same crash always happens. Each time I installed it, all the files looked to be in order.

Do you have a another pc that can possibly be running windows xp and try installing it and running it on that and see what happens. If it's the same thing then it's the disk and you then need a new disk. Just saying to try it on xp because it could be that it's not compatible or true proof that it is in deed a corrupted disk. Well that's if you have xp but if you don't then my other thought is that the cd is no good anymore and you need a new one or it's not compatible with win 7 x64.

From the desktop, right click the Computer icon and select Manage from the dropdown menu.
The management console should arrive, there are icons in the left pane, one is Event viewer,
left click the icon, after a short wait the Summary of Admin events will arrive.
You will see the following ,critical; error; warning with a clickable + sign next to it. Now look at the right of the box there are columns to indicate when the event happened. You don't need to read them all, look for a time when you know the problem occured, say in the last hour, or several times in the previous day, go back to the left and click to expand a log to see what happened, usually there will be an error number and a faulting program or module name.

Post a snip of this back here and I'll see what we can do.

This is quite common and is called an access violation and it's critical in so far as the application in not allowed executable memory space.
usually the most frequent cause is a Ram problem, so you should test your memory first.
Also there can be a problem with DEP on older .exe's Data Execution Prevention is both a hard and software method of preventing programs running if needed.
You can stop it from running by editing the boot.ini file, but this should be a last measure, not a first.

Its expansion packs will not work either, and all do the same crash and give the same error message. I've done two clean uninstallations and wiped its presence from the registry with no success. When I access the files, everything is normal. There are no missing paks.

I had exact same issue with MOHAA. I have same OS. Tried all solutions above including disabling DEP for MOHAA in Performance options in advanced tab of system properties, but no difference.

Solution was my Nvidia Graphics driver, downloaded latest from Nvidia site Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers and installed.

I already had MOHAA installed but had not played in couple of months. It was working beforehand, eventually remembered windows action centre had asked me to download new nvidia drivers, these drivers caused issue and are different from manual download. Will ignore action centre in future.

Hope this helps somebody.

Hello And How Are You.....My Name Is Alton And Have Recently Replaced My Toshiba Satellite L455D-S5976 (Laptop) Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit (Computer Died) Which Ran MOHAA Warchest With No Problems.

I Recently Purchased A Toshiba Satellite L745-S4110 (Laptop) Which Is Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit A Friend Of Mine Suggested A Website That You Can Go To And Check Your System For Many Games And Applications And That Seemed To Indicate My Video Card Is Not What It Should Be. Hey all,

I have found an answer to the problem, may not work with everyone, but generally people who are playing on a laptop.

Switchable graphics controllers.

Basically, if you have switchable graphics, as many laptops nowerdays do to save battery power, the system will run using your CPU, and when you play a game or something that requires more than standard graphics, it switches to GPU on startup of that game/program.

I stumbled across this after running the configure.exe files for all 3 MOHAA games, and it was telling me that I will be running the game in Intel HD graphics, but I ran a quick check through systemrequirementslab dot com, and it said that I couldn't run it due to the fact I had Intel HD graphics, although it was reading 4gb vRAM. Intel HD with 4gig vram? that would be amazing, but probably not in our lifetimes. Truth is, it was picking up the fact I have a Radeon HD 6633M wacked in my laptop but the info was coming through the cpu. In comes the Catalyst controller!

Open your catalyst controller (or equivalent graphics controller) and change the switchable graphics to manual (this willl make your screen go funny, but don't worry), click on the Power option, switchable graphics, select high performance GPU, funny screen again, run configure.exe again on the MOHAA games you have installed, and voila, Medal of Honor in all its glory!

I hope this helps whoever is still looking for answers! And I am sure there will be an option for this for nVidia Switchable graphics systems

Happy gaming!

EDIT: Still needs to be run in XP sp2 or 3 compatability mode, and don't worry about the desktop dooburywhatsit checkbox
