No sound for speakers on a HP Pavilion. System resore had no effect.

I have a HP Pavilion model number p7-1154 pc. I have tried almost everything to get it to work. System restore, re-installing, clean install, and everything else of drivers and codecs. Nothing works. No virus did this. Everything is brand new on the PC. Was working fine for over a week. I had Kaspersky anti-virus. Then suddenly it said the license for it was missing when it went to update... I tried re-install of it but.. it would not let me. Tried uninstalling and kept getting errors. So I used a tool from the Kaspersky site to remove it. Then installed AVG. Since then.. no sound. Please, someone help me with this issue.. I do not know why this happened..... The computer is literally brand new. In the playback devices.... It says I am getting sound but, no sound is going in the speakers.. In the "playback" for sound settings it shows in the little bar that sound is being played, but I get no sound... Please... help me.

Maybe a dumb question, but are you sure you don't have the sound muted?
