Solved Making distinctive desktop folders for groups of shortcuts??

Sometimes a desktop becomes cluttered with shortcuts. Not infrequently several may relate to a group, say, of security apps.

I was thinking, if there might be a way to create folders with distinctive covers, such as one with a padlock embossed on it for security.

Can it be done?

I'm not sure you can create covers like that for sets of folders, but for grouping icons on the desktop, you might want to look into Fences.

I think this might be all you want.
You can create a standard folder and use any icon for it. Just right click the folder -> properties -> customize tab and at the bottom of that tab select change icon.

Fences looks pretty cool though.

No problems. There's also a number of free icons on internet you may prefer.

I like a clean desktop and usually icons aren't even exposed(Image 2). Only exposed to show how it looks for creating the toolbars on left (Image 1). No 3rd party program.
After creating folders named Office, Graphics, Security & Webpages I used 'folderico' to change their appearance and blend into background.
Then I sorted my desktop shortcut icons into the proper folder.
Then I built my file cabinet on the left.
Top drawer for office programs. Wordpad, Notepad, Excel, Word etc
2nd drawer for Graphics. Paint, Photoscape, VLC, Snipping tool, Faststone etc
3rd Drawer for Desktop.
4th Drawer for SpywareBlaster, AV, Firewall, Eraser, CCleaner, etc
5th drawer for browser Favorites bar links
6th drawer for special web pages.

I moved my Taskbar to left as experiment and won't go back. Because first it never interferes with the bottom of web pages and it is out of the way. 2nd, most of the time I have it auto hide.
