optimizing Windows7 swapfile..??

OK, here's the scenario..

I'm currently running the 64-bit RC(7100) via an i965 Extreme CPU
6Gig RAM - Single 1 terabyte drive with 2 partitions (- my SSD's are temporarily un-installed..)

- is it worth moving the Windows7 swapfile page away from the OS's partition..??
- is there an advantage in setting the min/max pagefile size to a specific size..??
- if so, what's the best size to go for..??

you will find oodles of 'advice' all over the net. lots of it nonsense, maybe including this...

my advice is with 6 gig ram, you aren't going to need a big swapfile - but make sure you don't disable it completely. saying that, letting windows take care of it is probably best, i think. a lot depends on how you use your pc, what software you run etc - windows probably knows best.

keep it on the same partition as your os - it's not going to be used much anyway, but if it is, lots of head-swapping will occur, just when you don't want it.

you may want to rethink this when your ssd's come back, as gigabytes are expensive. so when they come back, move the swap file over to your traditional drive, so you can leave more space for os and progs on ssd drive.

Place the page file on a separate physical disk serves a purpose. Placing on a separate partition on the same physical disk serves no mechanical pupose.

Not in your circumstance, in all likelihood.

I use 2GB w/ 4GB actual RAM.

I recommend letting Windows manage this.
