I have windows defender in C:\Program Files\Windows Defender and in C:\Program Files [x86]\Windows Defender. The windows defender in C:\Program Files [x86\]Windows Defender has no exe

On my windows 7 pc window defender mpsvc.dll has no digital signature tab. Is this a legit file? It is in C:\Program files\ windows defender\mpsvc.dll and in C:\Program Files [x86\]Windows Defender

It is signed on my vista machine. On the windows 7 the file has no digital signatures tab in properties so cannot check if it is signed. Also even the exe has no digital signature tab on my 7 machine. How to check if file OK?

Are properties different in windows 7, no digital signature tab.?Has a details tab where it says the file is copyright microsoft

In vista there is a digital signature tab?

Thanks

Hello Banner, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Yep, it's legit and normal. It's the same in all of my Windows 7 installations as well. :)

Thanks. Do you know why one folder-C:\Program Files [x86\]Windows Defender - does not have all the files not even the exe?

THe 64-bit bit Windows 7 has both the C:\Program Files (x86) (for 32-bit programs) and C:\Program Files (for 64-bit programs) folders. Since you have a 64-bit Windows 7 installed, it doesn't have them in C:\Program Files x86 since it only uses the exe from the C:\Program Files folder for Windows Defender.

I'm not sure why Micrsoft didn't have a digital certificate for the .exe file of Windows Defender though, but none of my installations have one. Even a clean install.
