Wpeinit during Win7 install & Cancel pending installation of Win7

I am trying to install 64 bit Windows 7 in order to repair windows installer, which gave me lot of problems that i couldn't solve. So i tried an upgrade installation (as suggested in another forum) with the original cd. (Win 7 was already installed on the pc, in this way i only tryed to repair the error)


The installation was going well. No problems were encounted as the program proceeded through the gathering files process. Then, a MSDOS window appeared and the installation hung-up. At the top of the box is: Adminitrator:X:\$WINDOWS~BT\Windows\system32\cmd.exe. Inside the box is: X:\$WINDOWS~BT\Windows\system32>wpeinit. On the next line is:
X:\$WINDOWS~BT\Windows\system32>_

The installation has stopped.

Now i can regularly use the pc if before booting that screen if i press up and down keys alternatively until i can choose to continue win7 installation or start windows. In that way the pc works fine.

But i would like to prevent this operation (the pc isn't mine)... So anyone knows how to cancel a previous pending installation of win7??

Try continuiing the installation to see if it will proceed or offer to roll back, Then try to start it over again watching for issues it flags to resolve. Back up your files, of course. Unplug all peripherals and other HD's.

If it fails I would back up your files, gather program installers and Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail Win7.

It would be a loooot better if i can resolve without formatting & reinstall...
So i was wondering if one of the following could be the solution:

-make a restore of the system to a moment previous the upgrade
-before doing it i made a backup of the registry... restoring the registry would work?

Try System Restore if you have a restore point before your ran the Repair Install.

I would not want to run the OS with that level of corruption. A clean reinstall solves these issues and gives you a fresh start. You can save a backup image and never have to reinstall again.

As far as i can understand there should be a new partition with the installer files, so if i delete it the system should start normally? Can it be? I dont have the pc in my hands now...

As Greg said I would not want to run an OS with that level of corruption but to me it sounds like you only want to get rid of the option to select which OS to boot into.

Now i can regularly use the pc if before booting that screen if i press up and down keys alternatively until i can choose to continue Windows 7 installation or start windows. In that way the pc works fine.

If I'm reading right you have two choices on bootup, Windows 7 Installation and Windows 7, and if you select Windows 7 your computer boots and run fine.

If that is true you can run MSConfig, click the boot tab and delete the Windows 7 Installation from the list or you can just make Windows 7 the default. And check the box, Make all boot settings permanent.

Backing up your data and doing a clean reinstall would be much better though.

Thank you I think this is what i need! I'll try this as soon as i can...
I know it would be better a clean install but at the moment i can't do that..
