* What Anti Virus did you remove?

* I strongly suggest you install Microsoft Security Essentials as soon as possible.
It is free & used by lots of people here.

Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows

* Then install Malwarebytes.

Please download the free version of Malwarebytes.

Update it immediately.
Do a full system scan

Let us know the results at the end.

Malwarebytes : Download free malware, virus and spyware tools to get your computer back in shape!

I would suggest using Sandboxie and forget about MSE.

+1 for JMH's recommendation. That is what I have - MSE and a paid version of Malwarebytes.

I would suggest using Sandboxie and forget about MSE.

This won't necessarily protect you at all when you get files and such from friends on USB keys and the like.

I second the use of MSE, it works great for me. Unless your PC is woefully underpowered, the performance impact should be more or less unnoticeable.

A good AV suite is mandatory in today's computing environment and some companies have trouble keeping up with viruses that are updated almost minute by minute.

For me and my clients this is a no brainer. Spending $70.00 for a year of protection is not an option, it is a necessity. I use and recommend Norton Internet Security. It is light on your system and is one of the best at catching the newer strains of the FakeAlerts that can devastate a system. It is the cost of doing business on the Internet today.

I have been trimming what I spend on various things Internet related the past year, but one thing that I will always have is a Security Suite. The one I use is $40 a year and well worth it. I prefer it over free ones, but there are some good free ones out there. I would suggest Microsoft Security Essentials if you are looking for a free one.

actually theres no fast antivirus but "light" antivirus and its performance depends on the hardware you got. and MSE+MBAM is a good choice suggested by many members in the forum :)

Well, I want to help you.

If you don't have antivirus installed, your computer is going to be cactus real soon.
Here is what to do:
Install Ccleaner (free) Run the program, and it will get rid of all the crap and temporary internet files. This will unclutter your computer and therefore speed it up a bit.

Install Malwarebytes anti malware, and run that program, and when you see all the red entries, select fix all problems. Now your computer will be less infected. And, this, will help speed up your computer.

At this stage, I suggest stick with Windows Firewall..(even though it is only a light firewall)
Comodo firewall (as a stand alone) is for later , when you get more skilled. It is the best firewall, but a weak antivirus.

Install Avast anti virus (free) as a stand alone . (not it's firewall feature..just the free antivirus) Run that. ( even better.., run the boot-time scan) This will ensure that any stubborn virus' (that re invent) can't Lazarith.

so here is the bottom line.

It is more likely that your computer is infected by Virus / Malware.. than by a legitimate anti virus program, hence the slow speed.

I forgot to mention something.

Don't have two antivirus programs running. It will slow your computer.

Also, don't have two firewalls running. (same reason)

Personally for free Comodo Premium - you get the works mate and what they tell you about it being a hog just isn't true - like everything else it depends on your system.

Myself for Kaspersky @ $0.07 a day (2 year licence - offer on) I cannot for the life of me see why anyone should chase their tail looking for a free one, but if you do CIS comes close.

Forgot to mention do get Malwarebytes - free version - good add on / back up:)
