VOLSNAP.SYS Crash and then other issues WIN7 64bit

Hi, been having a real bum of an issue, my system has a mild overclock on it but it has been tested thoroughly using Intel Burn Test on maximum settings, OOCT linpack for an hour, Hyper PI, well you name it, its been tested with and all comes up A ok.

When I play F1 2011, everything is fine, I can play the game for ages, but as soon as I try to shut the game down, wham, black screen and computer reboots.

On checking the event logs, it reports a Volsnap.sys error with code 36 just before the crash.

So I tried enabling driver verifier, and it kept BSOD'ing with timntr.sys, so using autoruns I unchecked this driver and rebooted, but then major headache cause the computer would not boot at all.

Tried to run the repair start up from installation disc and got no joy, it said that it had failed and couldn't repair the computer.

The timntr.sys is from seagate disc wizard and it is their latest version available, freshly installed, prior to this I had just done a thorough clean up of my boot drive and paired down my programs before creating a system image using Disc Wizard.

I am currently restoring that Image using the Disc Wizard Boot Disk, hopefully this will get me back into Windows.

I have ran MEMTEST 86+ for 4 passes for 6 hours with no errors.

I can run the computer for literally hours, stress it with any software you can mention but as soon as I try to exit F1 2011 this black screen shut down occurs.

One post I read mentioned using the windowed mode when chnaging between modes of the game and this had some success but when I tried to go back full screen, the crash happened again.

MB = ASUS M4N98TD Evo
RAM = 2 x 4GB Crucial Tactical Tracers 1600Mhz
Pro = AMD X6 1090T
Graphics = GTX 470 SOC
WIN 7 64 bit home premium service pack 1

I could really use some help with this, as I am just spinning my wheels at the minute, going round in circles, trying regedit fixes that don't work that involve TDR or Power Mizer.

The restore of the disc image that i took has managed to get me back into Windows.

sfc /scannow reports no integrity violations, CHKDSK/R is fine too

I am worried by these drivers that are listed in verifier.exe, there are several that relate to DUMP and they are of unknown source, please see image:

Ok I did some research and the 000.fcl is related to my Power dvd install, and the others "the dumps" seem to be system related??

What should I about this crash and is the timntr.sys a real problem, the software works obviously as I have just reinstalled the system image, so all would seem to be well in terms of seagate disc wizard working, there is an updated version of the driver which is version 598 but I can't find a download anywhere.

I have uinstalled seagate disc wizard and instead I have installed Acronis WD edition, this still recognises my previous back ups as i thought it would, just hope it has the updated driver.

The drivers that start in "dump_" are merely copies of the driver named (after the dump_) that Windows makes for use when a memory dump occurs.

FYI - RTCore64.sys is a known BSOD cause in some Win7 systems (it belongs to Riva Tuner, EVGA Precision, or MSI Afterburner). Please uninstall it immediately.

Older Acronis drivers will cause BSOD's, so please make sure that your version is listed as compatible here: Windows 7 Compatibility: Software Programs & Hardware Devices: Find Updates, Drivers, & Downloads

ASACPI.sys (the 2004 and 2005 versions) are known to cause BSOD's. The 2007 and later versions seem to be OK.

Just FYI - a recent poster (early Nov 2011) states that they were advised by Asus to manually set their memory settings/timings/voltages because of issues with the M4 series of motherboards.
You can get the settings/timings/voltages from the website of your RAM manufacturer.

I use afterburner for controlling fan speeds, is there any other software that can do the same thing that doesn't have issues?
I uninstalled seagate disc wizard and installed WD edition Acronis instead, I believe it said that it was dated from 2011, so according to the link you provided should now be ok, as it says that anything past 2010 for acronis is compatible.

I checked ATK110 which I believe asacpi.sys belongs to, in device manager and there were two versions listed as being on the computer when I checked update driver manually, I changed it to the later dated version of the two, I am not sure what the date of it was.

Its a strange one because as I say, I can stress test it till the cows come home and all is stable, as soon as I try to shut F1 2011 down after playing it for an hour or more, I get this black screen issue, the only reference that keeps coming up in event manager around the same time as the crash is Volsnap.sys, I am wondering if this is having issues when trying to save the game, as the game uses an autosave feature.

I have no clue about fan speed controllers. Remove it to test - if you want it back later on, then feel free to reinstall it.

I would strongly suggest that you not manually change the ASACPI.sys drivers - but rather download the appropriate driver from the Asus website and use their installer to install it properly.

Once those are fixed, then please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Hardware Diags
You can see if you can force the Driver Verifier BSOD by repeatedly trying to shut down the game.

I can't find the ATK110 driver on ASUS website anymore, I think maybe they have stopped supporting it, does this mean that it would be safe to remove it?

Does anyone even know what it is for, some seem to say it relates to cool and quiet and others that it relates to PC Probe. The fact that it isn't on the download list for my Motherboard suggests to me that maybe it should be removed? Maybe it is this causing the issues?

I am not using any ASUS software and deleted it off the system as I know that ASUS stuff has caused issues for some.

You must have the ATK0110 driver or you'll have more problems.
A while back we only knew that it existed alone, or in the AISuite and PCProbe software.
I just found it in the TurboV software when researching your problem.

Here's how to do it. It's a bit detailed, but just follow it step-by-step:

Go here: Drivers and Download (M4N98TD EVO) [Official Site - Main Page]
Enter your OS in the dropdown box (Win7 64bit)
Expand the Utilities category by clicking on the + sign
Scroll down to the "ASUS TurboV V1.02.02 for Windows 32/64bit XP & 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit Windows 7"
Download it and save it to your hard drive. It'll save as "TurboV10202_WinXPVistaWIn7.zip"

Right click on it and select "Extract all"
Double click on the TurboV10202_WinXPVistaWIn7 directory
In the next directory should be an Acpi64 directory - double click on that.
In the next directory you'll see a file named AsAcpiIns.exe
Double click on that and let it do it's thing.

That'll insert the new ASACPI.sys driver into your system.

Genius as always usama! I did recently install that Turbo V software but deleted it as every time I changed the CPU/NB voltage the computer would instantly lock up, I will try what you suggest. Should I remove and delete the drivers from device manager first or just let it install over the top.

Don't install TurboV, just install using the directions that I gave you.
Don't delete anything, let the program do it for you.
